Madison's Azmoun named Ohio Cardinal Conference Softball Pitcher of the Year
When Ohio Cardinal Conference teams played the Madison Rams, they knew hits were going to be hard to come by.
With Layla Azmoun in the circle, who could blame them for thinking that way? Azmoun was voted as the OCC Pitcher of the Year by the league's coaches and for good reason. Azmoun went 16-4 for the Rams this year sporting a 3.44 earned run average with 136 strikeouts to just 24 walks. She allowed 63 earned runs in 128 ⅓ innings and was so impressive, she led the Rams to a co-OCC championship sharing the title with Mount Vernon and New Philadelphia.
Azmoun was selected as a first team All-OCC player along with teammates Olivia Schulz and Bri Bowles as well as Lexington's Jillian Morr.
Madison's Emily Nolan, Hope Barrett and Kyleigh Reiter were second team selections along with Lexington's Kylie Galownia while Lexington's Kaylie Eichorn and Kylie Thornton, Madison's Emma Stankovich and Kendyll Kershner and Mansfield Senior's Hannah Nolen and Isabelle Blevins were honorable mentions.
