Mac Jones’ touchdown to Hunter Henry showed such impressive anticipation

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was making the deep pass look easy during the first half of the team’s matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Jones had been taking baby steps on passes that travel 20-yards or more beyond the line of scrimmage.

It hadn’t been pretty, particularly in the Patriots’ loss to the New Orleans Saints. But in Week 5, Jones showed progress. It got better in Week 6. Jones’ protection had major issues as the game went on against Dallas. But when the line protected him, Jones showed more anticipation than he’d showed in previous games.

On the score to Hunter Henry, their third touchdown connection in as many weeks, Jones threw the ball before his tight end had changed directions in his route. The QB simply knew when Henry would break away from coverage. Jones timed the pass perfectly for a touchdown.

Here’s a look at where Henry was when Jones released the ball.

It’s an encouraging sign for the 23-year-old, who seems to progress each week of the NFL season.
