Malik Nabers had 'great interview' with Giants: 'They love dogs'

Malik Nabers, the LSU wide receiver who is a possible target for the Giants at No. 6 in the 2024 NFL Draft, spoke about what he "really likes" about head coach Brian Daboll.

"My meeting with the Giants was actually pretty good," Nabers said Friday from Indianapolis. "The head coach, they love dogs. They’re able to find those receivers that they really want and they got a great plan going on to this season that I heard."

On what it means to be a "dog," he added, “When that balls in the air, it’s mine. And when I get that ball in my hands I’m able to do tremendous things with it, create space on different DBs, and able to make explosive plays downfield, take an eight-yard route and turn it into a touchdown."

Nabers, 20, hauled in 89 receptions for 1,569 yards (17.6 per catch) and 14 touchdowns during his third season at LSU, catching passes from the Heisman Trophy-winner and another potential Giants’ first-round draft target Jayden Daniels.

From his impression of the "great interview" he had with Big Blue, Nabers believes Daboll "really likes" him and that he can step in and be the top receiver the team has lacked since Odell Beckham Jr. departed in a trade in 2019.

"I know they're still looking for that wide receiver one, especially after Odell left. If I can come in and be that guy then, so be it," he said.

On his game, Nabers said he is "able to go on the outside and win, go in the slot, be able to be moved around and create space on the linebacker, I know I carry the ball pretty good."

"A different offense can move me around and still get that dog mentality," he said.

In his three seasons with the Tigers, the six-foot-one wideout had 3,003 yards and 21 touchdowns on 189 catches (15.9 yards per reception).

The Giants also had an interview with Washington wide receiver and projected first-round pick Rome Odunze.

Odunze, 21, caught 92 passes for 1,640 yards (17.8 per catch) for 13 touchdowns last season for the Huskies, his fourth collegiate season.

"The Giants are good people," the six-foot-three wide receiver said. "We were laughing in there a little bit. Quizzing me on some film, getting to know who I was and I was getting to know them. I think it went well, I was excited to meet them."

The biggest takeaway from Big Blue’s interview: "I feel like they’re good dudes, honestly."

"It seemed like they had joy in the room, that they were excited about the process," Odunze said. "They knew ball, of course. And were excited about their future as well. I think good things to come."
