LSU football: Brian Kelly calls Greg Brooks Jr.'s medical situation 'a family matter'

BATON ROUGE – LSU football coach Brian Kelly called Greg Brooks' medical situation "a family matter" and could not provide a timeline for Brooks' potential return to the field, Kelly said Monday ahead of LSU's matchup against Arkansas on Saturday (6 p.m., ESPN).

Brooks did not play during LSU's win on Saturday over Mississippi State after having a "medical emergency" prior to the contest. Malik Nabers said the team learned of Brooks' emergency last Thursday.

Brooks was awarded the game ball following the win.

"I'm not going to speak on the family's behalf. If there is anything that I can get to you further, after I speak with the family, I will certainly give you information," Kelly said.

Brooks' former coach, Arkansas coach Sam Pittman, began his weekly press conference by sending his best wishes to Brooks.

"I want to start out talking about Greg Brooks. I'm not positive what is going on with him, but they talked about a medical emergency," Pittman said. "Greg was a wonderful kid when he was here and did a great job for us.

"Whatever it may be, I want him and his family and LSU to know that we're concerned, we're praying for him and we hope that he has a speedy recovery. I wish I knew more about it but I don't. I do know a medical emergency means there's something wrong, and our thoughts and prayers are with him and the LSU football team and community."
