LSU baseball bounces back in midweek win over Louisiana

After a rough weekend against Arkansas, where LSU was swept in three games by the Razorbacks, it got back in the win column on Tuesday night with a commanding 8-4 win over ULL.

Ty Floyd got the start on the mound and pitched five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and eight strikeouts. LSU drew first blood in the bottom of the second inning when Tre Morgan hit a solo home run to make it 1-0 Tigers after two innings.

However, the Ragin’ Cajuns took the lead after two solo home runs, one in the third inning and one in the fourth inning as they took a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, LSU broke the score open with five runs in the inning. It started with a two-run home run by Jordan Thompson to make it 3-2 Tigers.

Dylan Crews followed that with a two-RBI single with bases loaded to increase their lead to 5-2.

Cade Doughty was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to score the final run of the fourth inning and make it 6-2 LSU. In the bottom of the fifth inning, LSU tagged on two more runs as Josh Stevenson hit a sacrifice fly to make it 7-2 Tigers and then Josh Pearson hit an RBI double to score the Tigers’ second run of the fifth inning and make it 8-2 LSU.

After an LSU error in the top of the seventh inning, the Ragin Cajuns scored two runs to cut the lead to 8-4. That was the closest UL would come to making a comeback.

With the win, LSU moves to 24-12 on the year. It will start a three-game series against Missouri this Thursday night at Alex Box Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
