Louisville women's basketball recruiting 2023: Center Eseosa Imafidon 1st commit to Cards

Louisville women's basketball announced the addition of center Eseosa Imafidon on Wednesday, making her the first signee of the 2023 class.

Prior to Imafidon's signing, head coach Jeff Walz filled out the roster by adding six players from the transfer portal and had no incoming freshmen. The Cardinals now have 11 scholarship players currently on the roster ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Imafidon, a Nigerian native who came to the United States through the Access2Success program and played at Andover Proctor Academy (New Hampshire) last season, also held offers from Kentucky, Iowa and Iowa State.

"Eseosa brings a great work ethic and defensive prowess with her ability to block shots and run the floor," Walz said in a news release. "Her infectious personality and commitment to excellence will serve her well on the court and in the classroom. To further her development, Eseosa will utilize a red shirt season to continue to evolve and adapt to the college game."

Imafidon comes to Louisville to help replace some of the size the team lost with the departure of 6-foot-5 bigs Liz Dixon and Josie Williams, who combined for 21 starts for the Cardinals. The frontcourt also includes forwards Olivia Cochran, Nyla Harris and recent transfer Hennie van Schaik.

Before attending Proctor Academy, Imafidon played at Matthews Covenant Day School (North Carolina), where she averaged 14.1 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game, earning All-American honors.
