LOCAL ROUNDUP: Westchester baseball beats Forsyth Country Day

Mar. 15—LEWISVILLE — Westchester Country Day beat Forsyth Country Day 5-1 in PTAC baseball Thursday at Forsyth Country Day.

Ryan Engle doubled and drove in a run for the Wildcats (4-1 overall, 2-0 conference). Eli Moore added a hit and an RBI, while Ashton Pittman also drove in a run. JD Chappell, Tate Vogler and Crawford Elrod each doubled.

Carson Daniel got the pitching win, striking out six in three innings.

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, WESTERN GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford topped Western Guilford 10-0 in six innings Thursday in Metro 4A Conference baseball at Southwest.

Jack Bliven had two hits and an RBI for the Cowboys (7-0 overall, 4-0 conference). Ryan Robinson had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Devin Hernandez and Anders Lyndrup also had two hits and an RBI.

Ryan Maness struck out 12 in five innings on the mound.

EAST DAVIDSON, LEXINGTON

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson won 10-0 against Lexington in Central Carolina 1A/2A Conference baseball Thursday at East. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

LEDFORD, NORTHERN GUILFORD

WALLBURG — Ledford defeated Northern Guilford 15-5 in five innings Thursday in nonconference baseball at Ledford. The Panthers improved to 3-1 overall.

OAK GROVE, SOUTHEAST GUILFORD

MIDWAY — Oak Grove downed Southeast Guilford 9-1 in nonconference baseball Thursday at Oak Grove. The Grizzlies improved to 2-3 overall.

SOFTBALL

HIGH POINT CENTRAL, TW ANDREWS

HIGH POINT — High Point Central defeated rival TW Andrews 17-1 in three innings Thursday in nonconference softball at Central.

Leah Ellerby had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for the Bison (3-1). Sha'Kaila Sturdivant-Ruff added two hits. Zeira Robles-Rojas and J'Niyah Ervin split time in the circle.

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, SOUTHEAST GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford beat Southeast Guilford 8-5 in Metro 4A Conference softball Thursday at Southwest.

Amelia Stewart had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs for the Cowgirls (7-1 overall, 4-0 conference). Aniya Harris added two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Makayla Stefanik doubled and drove in three runs.

Miracle Kendrick struck out six in earning the complete-game pitching win.

HIGH POINT CHRISTIAN, WEST STOKES

KING — High Point Christian downed West Stokes 9-2 in nonconference softball Thursday at West Stokes.

Lila Allred and Laci Jarrell each had two hits and three RBIs for the Cougars (5-0). Blakely Bowman and Maci Burkhart each added two hits, while Hailey Allred had a hit and an RBI.

Paisley Dixon earned the complete-game win, striking out nine.

WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN, PAGE

HIGH POINT — Wesleyan Christian defeated Page 16-1 in nonconference softball Thursday at Wesleyan's Sandy Ridge field. The Trojans improved to 4-1 overall.

GLENN, RJ REYNOLDS

KERNERSVILLE — Glenn won 15-0 against RJ Reynolds in Central Piedmont 4A Conference softball Thursday at Glenn. The Ladycats improved to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

OAK GROVE, ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

WENTWORTH — Oak Grove rolled past Rockingham County 9-0 in nonconference softball Thursday at Rockingham County.

Chloe Watkins had a double and three RBIs for the Grizzlies (6-0). Isabelle Lawrence added a hit and two RBIs, while Ayla Sneed had a double and an RBI.

Mary Peyton Hodge got the complete-game win, striking out 11 while allowing just one hit and no walks.

RAGSDALE, GRIMSLEY

JAMESTOWN — Ragsdale outlasted Grimsley 14-11 in Metro 4A Conference softball Thursday at Ragsdale.

Haley Beavers had three hits, including two doubles, and five RBIs for the Tigers (3-3 overall, 1-3 conference). Anderson Froysell doubled, tripled and drove in two runs, while Gracie Cuthrell and Isis Perry each had two hits.

Cuthrell got the complete-game win, striking out eight.

WHEATMORE, ASHEBORO

ASHEBORO — Wheatmore won 16-0 in four innings against Asheboro in nonconference softball Thursday in Asheboro.

Skylar Pittman doubled, tripled and drove in five runs for the Warriors (2-3). Hannah Shoe also had two hits and two RBIs, while Carmen Turgeon had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Savannah Heiney chipped in three hits, including two doubles.

Turgeon got the pitching win, striking out eight without allowing a hit or a walk.

LACROSSE

HIGH POINT CENTRAL GIRLS, NORTH DAVIDSON

HIGH POINT — High Point Central fell 14-9 against North Davidson in Mid-State/Mid-Piedmont/Northwest Piedmont Conference girls lacrosse Thursday at AJ Simeon Stadium.

Ava Burton had two goals and an assist for the Bison (2-3 overall, 0-2 conference). Adele Kattenfeld and Dixie Clinard each had two goals, while Mallory Cook, Joel Martin and Hadassah Evans each scored one goal.

Irtiqa Khan (eight saves) and Catherine Miller shared time in goal.

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, ATKINS

WINSTON-SALEM — Southwest Guilford lost 5-4 against Atkins in nonconference boys lacrosse Thursday in Winston-Salem. The Cowboys dipped to 1-5 overall. In the girls match, Southwest fell 12-9 to move to 3-4.

GLENN, RAGSDALE

JAMESTOWN — Glenn defeated Ragsdale 19-5 in nonconference boys lacrosse Thursday at Ragsdale. The Bobcats improved to 4-1 overall while the Tigers dipped to 0-5.

In the girls match, Ragsdale won 10-8. The Tigers improved to 1-5 while the Ladycats moved to 0-6.

BOYS TENNIS

BISHOP McGUINNESS, WEST STOKES

KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness beat West Stokes 6-3 in nonconference boys tennis Thursday at Civitan Park.

Luke Ansari (6-1, 6-0), Tyler Sturgill (6-3, 6-1), Chase Wiedwald (6-3, 6-1) and Hayden Connor (6-4, 1-6, 10-7) won in singles. Ansari/Luke Holton (8-6) and Sturgill/Wiedwald (8-4) won in doubles.

The Villains improved to 5-1s overall.

THOMASVILLE, NORTH ROWAN

SPENCER — Thomasville beat North Rowan 5-4 in Central Carolina 1A/2A Conference boys tennis Thursday at North Rowan.

Brandon Robles (6-2, 6-4), George Villagomez (6-6 (7-4), 7-5), Joel Ignacio (6-0, 6-3) and Oscar Dublina (6-0, 6-0) won in singles for the Bulldogs. Ignacio/Dublina (8-4) won in doubles.

WHEATMORE, PROVIDENCE GROVE

TRINITY — Wheatmore won 5-4 against Providence Grove in PAC 1A/2A boys tennis Thursday at Wheatmore.

Silas Jessup (6-1, 6-0), Avery Plummer (6-3, 6-1), Kalvin Smith (6-3, 4-6, 10-5) and Matthew Davis (7-6 (7-4), 6-3) won in singles for the Warriors. Jessup/Plummer (8-2) won in doubles.

Wheatmore improved to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

GIRLS SOCCER

EAST DAVIDSON, LEDFORD

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson edged Ledford 1-0 in nonconference girls soccer Thursday at Brown Middle.

Celeste Esparza scored the lone goal of the match for the Golden Eagles (3-2), while Aixa Ramos got the shutout in goal. Sanna Simpson made four saves for the Panthers (3-3-1).

GLENN, WALKERTOWN

KERNERSVILLE — Glenn beat Walkertown 8-0 in nonconference girls soccer Thursday at Glenn.

Ashley Lopez Martinez had four goals and three assists for the Ladycats (2-2-1). Jeylin Medina-Mariche also had four goals and one assist. Kirin Stewart made three saves in goal.

BOYS GOLF

AT WINDING CREEK

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson shot a team score of 174 during Thursday's nonconference match at Winding Creek Golf Course.

Riley Coker shot a 39 to lead the Golden Eagles, followed by Riley Gooch with a 43, Ethan Campbell-Young with a 44 and Matthew Moore with a 48.

TRACK

CHARLOTTE — High Point University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams have been selected the preseason conference favorites by the Big South coaches, the league announced Thursday.

Both squads were voted first for the second consecutive season after sweeping last year's Big South outdoor championships. Both Panthers teams are coming off conference indoor championships

The High Point women received seven first-place votes and 63 points, ahead of Charleston Southern with 57 points and one first-place vote. The men received all seven first-place votes and 49 points, ahead of second-place Charleston Southern with 42.

The Panthers start their outdoor season in full this weekend in the 49er Classic in Charlotte.

BASEBALL

CHARLOTTE — Tickets are on sale for this spring's Big South baseball tournament hosted at High Point's Truist Point.

The three-day, double-elimination format featuring the top four teams at the end of the conference's regular season will begin Thursday, May 23, and conclude Saturday, May 25.

There will be two games the first day and two the second (including two elimination games). The final day will include one game with the possibility of a second depending on the first's outcome. The champion will receive the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals.

Tickets for each single-day session are general admission and are priced $11 through May 22. Starting May 23, tickets will be $15 for adults and $12 for students and children. Tickets purchasing, additional information and suite availability are all available by contacting the High Point Rockers.

CAROLINA CORE FC SIGNS WHITE

HIGH POINT — Carolina Core FC has signed Jeremiah White IV to its inaugural roster. White, 17, joins the club after spending the previous season with the Philadelphia Union Academy. He has also played on the U-17 U.S. Youth National Team.

"Jeremiah is one of the youngest players in our squad and is a great representation of the future of American soccer," said Eddie Pope, the club's chief sporting officer. "At a young age, he possesses the ability to read the game at a high level. His intelligence on the field combined with his athleticism makes him the perfect profile for a wingback or wide midfielder."
