LOCAL ROUNDUP: Bishop's Jernigan, Oak Grove's Charles earn NCBCA all-state

Mar. 26—KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness' Adelaide Jernigan and Oak Grove's Trista Charles have been selected to the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association's all-state teams. Jernigan was named to the second team while Charles was chosen for the third team.

Jernigan, a junior guard, averaged 19.0 points per game to lead the Villains. She also added 4.6 rebounds, which was second on the team, and 1.8 steals, which also led the team.

Charles, a junior guard/forward, averaged 19.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game to lead the Grizzlies. She also added 2.4 steals, which tied for the team lead, and 1.9 assists, which was second on the team.

BOYS GOLF

AT GRANDOVER

GREENSBORO — Wesleyan Christian took second place while High Point Christian was third and Westchester Country Day was fourth in Monday's PTAC boys golf match at Grandover's East Course.

Greensboro Day won with a 156 team score. Wesleyan had a 160, while HPCA had a 161 and Westchester had a 176.

AT MEADOWLANDS

WALLBURG — Oak Grove won Monday's Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference boys golf match at Meadowlands Golf Club.

The Grizzlies shot a 149 team score, edging North Davidson by a shot. Ledford was third with a 171.

SOFTBALL

HIGH POINT CHRISTIAN, CONCORD ACADEMY

CONCORD — High Point Christian won 10-0 in five innings against Concord Academy in nonconference softball Monday at Concord Academy.

Laci Jarrell went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Cougars (8-0). Kerri Langfitt and Paisley Dixon each had two hits and two RBIs, while Maci Burkhart added a double and an RBI.

Dixon also got the pitching win, striking out 10 in four innings. Madison Benson added a 1-2-3 inning.

TRINITY, THOMASVILLE

THOMASVILLE — Trinity won 21-8 against Thomasville in nonconference softball Monday at Doak Park. Trinity improved to 3-6 overall while Thomasville dipped to 0-8.

WHEATMORE, SALISBURY

SALISBURY — Wheatmore defeated Salisbury 14-3 in nonconference softball Monday at Salisbury.

Adalyn Boles doubled and drove in five runs for the Warriors (4-5). Maddie Nichols, who doubled twice and tripled, and Skylar Pittman, who doubled twice, each had three hits and three RBIs. Savannah Heiney also had three hits and two RBIs.

Carmen Turgeon got the complete-game pitching win, striking out 12 while allowing just three hits.

GIRLS SOCCER

WESTCHESTER COUNTRY DAY, HIGH POINT CHRISTIAN

HIGH POINT — Westchester Country Day edged High Point Christian 0-0 (3-1 in penalty kicks) in PTAC girls soccer Monday at Correll-Morris Field.

Covington Hauser, Ashlyn Rives and Cambria Garzon scored in PKs for the Wildcats (1-3 overall, 1-3 conference). Allison Sink scored for the Cougars (0-9, 0-4). Garzon got the win in net for Westchester, while Kaylee White made two saves for HPCA.

EAST DAVIDSON, NORTH ROWAN

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson rolled to a 10-1 win against North Rowan in Central Carolina 1A/2A Conference girls soccer Monday at Brown Middle. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

FRANKLINVILLE — Bishop McGuinness topped Providence Grove 8-1 in nonconference boys tennis Monday at Providence Grove.

Luke Ansari (6-0, 6-0), Luke Holton (6-3, 6-0), Tyler Sturgill (6-0, 6-0), Chase Wiedwald (6-3, 6-0), Hayden Connor (6-0, 6-0) and Santiago Mendoza (6-2, 6-1) won in singles. Sturgill/Wiedwald (8-0) and Devon Stalek/Everett Smith (8-3) won in doubles.

The Villains improved to 7-1 overall.

EAST DAVIDSON, LEXINGTON

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson won 8-1 against Lexington in Central Carolina 1A/2A Conference boys tennis Monday at Brown Middle.

Gaige Blackburn (6-3, 3-6, 10-7), Allen Simmons (6-4, 6-7(5-7), 10-3), Cam Eddinger (8-3), Nicholas Barrow (6-2, 6-2) and Casey Hilton (6-0, 6-2) won in singles. Blackburn/Zach Tooley (8-2), Simmons/Eddinger (9-8(7-4)) and Barrow/Hilton (8-5) won in doubles.

The Golden Eagles improved to 4-5 overall and 4-3 in the conference.

WHEATMORE, ASHEBORO

ASHEBORO — Wheatmore defeated Asheboro 6-3 in nonconference boys tennis Monday at Memorial Park.

Silas Jessup (6-3, 6-3), Avery Plummer (6-2, 6-3), Preston Jones (6-3, 1-6, 10-8) and Michael McNamara (6-0, 6-1) won in singles. Jessup/Plummer (8-2) and Kalvin Smith/McNamara (9-8(8-2)) won in doubles.

The Warriors improved to 5-5 overall.

LACROSSE

BISHOP McGUINNESS, EASTERN GUILFORD/DAVIE COUNTY

GIBSONVILLE — Bishop McGuinness rolled past Eastern Guilford 20-1 in Mid-State/Mid-Piedmont/Northwest Piedmont Conference boys lacrosse Monday at Eastern Guilford. The Villains improved to 7-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

In the girls match at Davie, Bishop won 17-7 to improve to 9-0 overall. Kate Dennen had five goals and three assists, while Ella Suire had four goals and three assists. Sarah Pulliam also had four goals, while Emery Grunwald, who had an assist, and Morgan Aho each had two goals. Kiersten Varner and Marian Waterman each had an assist.

Maddie Edwards (four saves) and Grace Khol (two saves) split time in goal.

WALNUT COVE — Bishop McGuinness defeated South Stokes 7-3 in nonconference baseball Monday at South Stokes.

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson won 20-2 and 14-2 against North Rowan in a Central Carolina 1A/2A Conference baseball doubleheader Monday at East. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-5 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

RAGSDALE, ASTRONAUT/TITUSVILLE

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Ragsdale defeated Astronaut (Fla.) 6-5 on Monday and Titusville (Fla.) 13-0 in five innings Tuesday in the Titusville Spring Break Baseball Tournament.The Tigers improved to 9-2 overall.

WHEATMORE, WEST DAVIDSON

TYRO — Wheatmore beat West Davidson 4-3 in nonconference baseball Monday at West Davidson.
