Liverpool vs Brentford

16:01

Liverpool jump up to third in the Premier League after a 3-0 victory over Brentford at Anfield. Salah opened the scoring with his well-taken 39th-minute strike, punishing the Bees for failing to take their chances before half-time. Nunez had twice seen goals ruled out for offside prior to the opening goal, but will take some comfort from assisting the breakthrough before the interval. Salah doubled his account and Liverpool’s lead after the break, heading in Tsimikas’ cross as Brentford appealed that the ball had gone out of play. Those claims fell on deaf ears and matters worsened for the Bees as Jota smashed in from Tsimikas’ short offload, the left-back registering his second assist of the game. Cruising to victory, Klopp introduced Diaz for his first Anfield appearance since his father was released from captivity after being kidnapped in Colombia. The Reds move level on points with the top two, Arsenal and Manchester City – the latter of who visit Chelsea later on Sunday and will look to make use of their game in hand. The international break offers club football the chance to pause, with Klopp’s men next travelling to Pep Guardiola’s champions on November 25, when Brentford host Arsenal. That is all for now, until next time – goodbye!

Liverpool vs Brentford

14 of Brentford’s last 15 Premier League wins have come in London, the exception being a victory at Southampton in March. Since the start of last season, the Bees have only won two of their 16 games staged outside the capital (D6 L8). That run looks set to continue here.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:55

There will be six minutes of additional time to end this clash at Anfield. Alisson beats away an assured punch from Mbeumo's inswinging delivery as Liverpool battle on for their clean sheet.

Liverpool vs Brentford

Substitution Trent John Alexander-Arnold Jarell Amorin Quansah

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:52

CHANCE! Elliott drives forward before taking matters into his own hands with a dipping left-footed drive. Flekken parries away before Salah ushers the ball out for a corner on the right-hand side.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:52

Another chance, another miss. Yarmolyuk steps inside but blasts high over the crossbar with another tame right-footed attempt. Frank's side have found the space but just cannot hit the target.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:50

Ghoddos tries his luck from range but spoons well over with a woeful right-footed effort. That sums up Brentford's attacking output in this game.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:48

The Bees have not shied away from their task after going 3-0 down. For the minute, Frank's side will leave with little to show for their endeavours as they head towards another defeat at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:47

Diaz makes an emotional return to Anfield. The Colombia winger’s father was released this week after 13 days in captivity from a kidnapping in his homeland. The home crowd rise to their feet as the forward comes on for Jota.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:47

A couple of throw-ins come for Brentford and they eventually opt to go long through Pinnock. Van Dijk heads away before Mbeumo hooks a poor right-footed strike well wide of Alisson's goal.

Liverpool vs Brentford

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:44

Liverpool have won their opening five home Premier League games this season – only twice in the Premier League era have they started a season with six wins at Anfield: 2019-20 (won first 17) and 2020-21 (first seven). The Reds are on course to achieve that feat here.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:43

A fourth consecutive corner from Brentford has Liverpool with their backs against the wall. Mbeumo once again takes towards the far post but, after a flick-on, Maupay fluffs his lines and misses a volleyed attempt.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:41

CLOSE! Mbeumo delivers another corner from the right flank and Norgaard flicks towards the back post. Matip is there to turn away before Pinnock forces a smart save from Alisson after the resulting corner.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:40

Mbuemo whips a right-sided corner towards the near post but Alisson punches clear. Tsimikas is then forced to turn behind once more as the Bees look for another set-piece chance.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:40

No Robertson, no problem. Tsimikas has offered the Reds so much from left-back and deserves his second assist of this clash. The Liverpool full-back leads his side for key passes (three) and is proving the perfect understudy for the Scotland international.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:36

It’s going to be a triple change from Brentford. The first of which sees Wissa off for Maupay, who scored in his last outing against West Ham.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:35

Frank is readying his second change on the touchline as Liverpool usher a loose ball out for a goal-kick. The Bees need a minor miracle to get back into this game.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:33

Nunez lurks inside the six-yard area but Flekken claims Salah's right-wing cross. The Liverpool frontline are tearing the Brentford defence apart at will in this second half.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:31

Salah has been directly involved 119 goals in 117 appearances for Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League (87 goals, 32 assists). The Reds star will fancy a hat-trick to cap a sensational game on a personal level.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:30

CLOSE! Mbeumo swings a left-sided corner to the near post, where Norgaard redirects towards the bottom-right corner. Wissa and Pinnock stretch for a tap-in but Alisson watches the ball gratefully behind for a goal-kick.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:29

Mbeumo wins another corner on the left-hand side. All of the Brentford defence come forward but can they make this one count?

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:29

Salah has scored (17 goals) or assisted (3 goals) in each of his last 15 home Premier League appearances. Only two other players have ever done so in 15 in a row – Alan Shearer (twice, March 1995 – February 1996, 18 in a row & April 1996 – May 1997, 17) and Thierry Henry (November 2002 – October 2003, 17).

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:25

Norgaard powers into the Liverpool area after a quick one-two before Matip produces a last-ditch block to thwart the Bees midfielder. Frank's side are far from out of this game.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:24

Mbeumo thinks he has a chance to the left of goal but Van Dijk prods a clearance behind. The Brentford forward's corner is cleared at the near post shortly after.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:22

Salah attempts to nudge a pass into the Brentford area but Pinnock blocks with his chest. Slight appeals for handball from the Reds fall on deaf ears as the centre-back used his body rather than an arm.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:20

No further action is required from the referee, despite the VAR checking Endo's clattering sliding challenge on Norgaard. Both midfielders were lunging for the ball and the pair escape without further punishment. The Brentford man is fine to continue, too.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:18

Endo thunders into a sliding challenge and leaves Norgaard on the ground. Liverpool play on as Alexander-Arnold's cross is cleared inside the Brentford area. The referee then stops the game for the Bees midfielder to receive medical attention. The VAR will have a look at the tackle as well.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:17

Another on a caution, Norgaard is once again penalised for handling when attempting to control a loose ball. Both him and Matip must be careful if they are to see out the 90 minutes. Gakpo rifles well over shortly after from range.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:16

Tsimikas opts for the selfish option by blasting over with a left-footed effort from outside the area. Flekken never appeared troubled there and was comfortable in watching the strike fly into the Kop end behind the goal.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:15

Jensen delivers the right-sided corner towards the near post but Norgaard fails to make contact with a header when unmarked. The Bees will fancy their chances from those sort of set-piece opportunities.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:14

SAVE! Mbeumo and Jensen hover over the free-kick, slightly to the left but just outside the Liverpool area. The Brentford midfielder lifts a right-footed strike over the wall before Alisson tips a routine save behind for a corner.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:13

Matip, already on a booking, clumsily fells Mbeumo to offer Brentford a free-kick just outside the area. The Liverpool centre-back must be careful, otherwise his next foul could lead to a dismissal.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:12

Mbeumo clatters into Alisson in an aerial duel and, as is so often the case nowadays, the Liverpool goalkeeper wins a free-kick inside his own six-yard area.

Liverpool vs Brentford

15:09

Substitution Vitaly Janelt Ogochukwu Frank Onyeka

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:56

The Anfield crowd has been treated to an open and end-to-end clash, with Frank's side holding their own for large parts. Indeed, Brentford have accumulated 0.74 xG (expected goals), compared to Liverpool's 1.15, and the visitors could have taken the lead when Mbeumo was denied one-on-one with Alisson. The Bees have reason for encouragement, but must respond in the second half.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:54

An entertaining first half comes to an end as Liverpool head 1-0 against Brentford in Sunday's Premier League clash at Anfield. Nunez twice saw strikes ruled out for offside before the Uruguay forward turned creator to slide in Salah for his 39th-minute opener. The Egypt attacker's ninth league goal of the season proves the difference at the interval.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:53

HALF-TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-0 BRENTFORD

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:53

The Anfield crowd want a free-kick and a red card for Collins, who lunges from behind but wins the ball first to stop Nunez from progressing. The Brentford centre-back had to get that one right, otherwise would have been dismissed immediately.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:52

CLOSE! Jota keeps alive a Liverpool attack before Alexander-Arnold clips a delicate cross towards the far post. Salah is completely unmarked but stretches too much and lifts over a volleyed finish. The Egypt international would have fancied his chances from that sort of range, so will be disappointed to not even hit the target.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:49

SAVE! Gakpo goes down under pressure from Jensen but the referee shows no interest in awarding a free-kick. Liverpool soon regain possession before Nunez blasts a long-range right-footed strike that Flekken parries away.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:48

There will be SIX minutes of additional time to end this half, owing to the two VAR checks and injuries to both Mee and Norgaard.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:46

Nunez crosses a hopeful delivery to the back post, where Flekken collects out the Anfield sky. Half-time is just moments away as Liverpool lead 1-0.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:45

Liverpool swarm in a rampant press before Gakpo needlessly fells the backtracking Wissa. The Reds have been relentless in their efforts to win back possession so far.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:44

Wissa stays down after a thunderous Van Dijk sliding challenge, which would have been a foul if not for the offside flag moments before. The Brentford forward is soon fine to continue, though.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:43

Mbeumo's cross is poor but Janelt keeps possession alive. Roerslev then angles towards the back post but Alisson claims with ease inside his six-yard box.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:40

Tsimikas has numerous attacking team-mates lining up but fails to find any of them with a low cutback pass from the left of the area. Nunez, Salah and Jota were all waiting but Brentford regroup in numbers to deal with the danger.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:40

Matip is furious as he is cautioned for a late lunge on Norgaard. The Liverpool centre-back seemed to win the ball first, but referee Tierney disagrees.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:38

Liverpool have won all eight of their games at Anfield in all competitions this season, all by a margin of two or more goals. In the Reds’ history, only from May to October 1980 have they ever won nine consecutive home games by at least two goals. They are yet to break past the Bees, though.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:37

Flekken claws away an unconvincing save from Szoboszlai's right-wing centre. Frank's side are camped inside their own half but are defending with resolute brilliance at the minute to keep their hosts at bay.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:36

Another head injury stops play at Anfield. Jensen goes down and the referee is forced to blow his whistle, much to the annoyance of the home crowd. Play soon restarts with a drop-ball at the feet of Van Dijk.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:35

WHAT A CHANCE! Brentford should be ahead. Jensen releases Mbeumo down the middle of the pitch as the forward powers into the Liverpool box before attempting to chip over Alisson. The Brazil goalkeeper does just enough to parry away a save as he rushes out to close the angle down. The Bees attacker should have found the back of the net there.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:34

Tsimikas' free-kick bounces all over the place before Pinnock prods clear as Jota lurks inside the Brentford six-yard area. The Reds are dominating but have little to show for their efforts so far.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:33

Back-to-back bookings come in a matter of seconds as Jota is once again felled by Ajer. The Brentford defender joins team-mate Norgaard in the referee’s book.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:32

Liverpool want to take a free-kick quickly but the referee stops play to caution Norgaard. The Brentford midfielder pulled back Jota to stop a counter-attack.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:31

For the second time in a short period, the VAR sticks with the assistant's decision and Nunez's acrobatic finish does not stand. The Uruguay international has twice been denied for offside in this first half.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:30

NO GOAL! Roerslev heads behind as Salah looks to attack Tsimikas' left-sided cross. The Liverpool left-back takes the corner from the right-hand side and Van Dijk forces a good save from Flekken. Matip redirects the rebound back towards the six-yard area, where Nunez hooks an acrobatic finish into the top-right corner. The offside flag is once again up, though, and the VAR will check another decision.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:28

After some brief medical attention, Mee is fine to continue. The centre-back limps towards the touchline holding his lower back and head, but will soon return to the pitch.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:27

Mee stays down holding his head after his own team-mate, Pinnock, clatters into him when both are challenging for an aerial duel. The former Burnley centre-back will require some medical attention, offering the players a breather as the game pauses.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:26

The decision remains with the on-field call as Nunez had strayed fractionally beyond the last man in the Brentford defence. Mee was deep as the last point of contact but the replays show the assistant was correct. It remains goalless at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:24

NO GOAL! Jota bursts down the left flank before finding Szoboszlai, who scuffs a left-footed shot from outside the area. The effort somehow trickles through to Nunez before the Liverpool forward finishes past Flekken from close range. The VAR will have a look at this one, though, as the assistant flagged for offside.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:22

Mbeumo spots the run of Roerslev but his throughball is overhit and Brentford have to play backwards before losing possession. Frank's side will have chances on the counter-attack but need to get the quality right on those delicate passes.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:21

Brentford haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 16 meetings with Liverpool in all competitions, since a top-flight goalless draw at Anfield in April 1936. Can the Bees keep their defence tight this time around?

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:20

OVER! Brentford offer the hosts a scare as Alexander-Arnold makes a mess of a clearance inside his own area. Mbeumo latches onto the loose ball before blasting a first-time left-footed strike both high and wide of Alisson's goal.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:18

Alexander-Arnold's second corner of the game comes to nothing as Jota is deemed to have committed a foul inside the area. The Portugal international went down as well but referee Tierney punished the Reds forward.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:17

CLOSE! Salah drifts into space on the right flank before rolling through for Nunez, whose first-time right-footed shot is kicked away at his near post by Flekken. The Bees cannot afford to give those two Liverpool attackers too many opportunities.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:16

Jota passes up on a great shooting opportunity before Gakpo offloads to Tsimikas, whose left-wing cross is deflected away by the scrambling Brentford defence. The Reds are getting numbers into the box but are yet to truly test Flekken.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:15

Pinnock heads behind Alexander-Arnold's cross for the first corner of the game. The England full-back takes the set-piece towards the near post, where Collins heads clear with little pressure on him.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:13

The Bees are furious as Jota wins a free-kick in the middle of the pitch for Mbeumo's sliding challenge. The Brentford forward seemed to get to the loose ball first, with the decision somewhat harsh on the visitors.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:12

Salah has time on the right-hand side but his left-footed cross is poor and lands on the roof of Flekken's goal. Nunez was out in a wide position there, so Liverpool had little targets inside the area.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:10

Alexander-Arnold angles a throughball for the run of Nunez but Flekken is soon off his line to claim and ease the pressure. The Liverpool right-back is seeing a lot of possession in the early stages.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:09

Alexander-Arnold searches for Matip with a long pass from the back but Brentford usher the ball out for a goal-kick. It has been a lively start at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:08

CHANCES! There is chaos inside the Liverpool area as Flekken launches a free-kick long. Matip can only clear as far as Pinnock, who hooks wide from near the penalty spot. Down the other end, Nunez almost beats the Brentford goalkeeper at his near post with a deflected left-wing cross.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:06

SAVE! Gakpo stings the palms of Flekken with an early rasping right-footed drive. The Netherlands international finds room outside the area but the Brentford goalkeeper saves with ease in the middle of his goal.

Liverpool vs Brentford

14:04

Salah's early right-wing cross is headed away by Mee, who will lead the defensive line for Brentford here. The Bees will have a lot of those deliveries to deal with in this game, one would assume.

Liverpool vs Brentford

Referee Paul Tierney gets this Premier League clash underway!

Liverpool vs Brentford

13:56

Liverpool have won their last seven home games against Brentford in all competitions, scoring 16 and conceding one, since a 4-3 loss in the top flight in November 1937. Can the Reds continue that impressive record here? We’re about to find out as kick-off approaches…

Liverpool vs Brentford

13:52

Frank opts for two alterations to his starting XI as Brentford switch to a five-man defence. Onyeka and Maupay drop to the bench as Roerslev and Mee come in from the start. Mbuemo and Wissa will operate as a two-man attack, with their pace likely to cause problems on the counter-attack for the Bees.

Liverpool vs Brentford

13:52

Klopp makes four changes to his starting line-up that were held at Luton. Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Ryan Gravenberch all miss out, while Alexis Mac Allister is suspended. Tsimikas, Endo, Gakpo and Matip are the quartet to come in.

Liverpool vs Brentford

13:36

Brentford are in impressive form before this visit to Merseyside, registering three straight wins in the top flight. Thomas Frank’s side swept aside Burnley with ease and made light work of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before battling to a 3-2 victory over West Ham in their last outing. The Bees have never won at Anfield in the Premier League, however, with a 1-0 reverse in this fixture last season following a 3-0 defeat in the campaign before.

Liverpool vs Brentford

13:36

The Reds failed to make it three league wins in a row after being held to a 1-1 draw at newly promoted Luton Town last Sunday. Matters could have been far worse for Liverpool, who were saved by Luis Diaz’s late equaliser – the winger paying an emotional tribute to his father who was missing in Colombia before his release. Liverpool sit fourth in the league and would leapfrog third-placed Tottenham with a victory here.
