Salah opened the scoring with his well-taken 39th-minute strike, punishing the Bees for failing to take their chances before half-time. Nunez had twice seen goals ruled out for offside prior to the opening goal, but will take some comfort from assisting the breakthrough before the interval. Salah doubled his account and Liverpool’s lead after the break, heading in Tsimikas’ cross as Brentford appealed that the ball had gone out of play. Those claims fell on deaf ears and matters worsened for the Bees as Jota smashed in from Tsimikas’ short offload, the left-back registering his second assist of the game. Cruising to victory, Klopp introduced Diaz for his first Anfield appearance since his father was released from captivity after being kidnapped in Colombia.
