Pearson podiums, full results from Day 2 of the 2024 CHSAA Track and Field Championships

Day two of the CHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships wrapped up on Friday at Jeffco Stadium and the Pueblo athletes that competed in the day's event really showed up and showed out.

Yesterday, one Pueblo athlete reached the top of the podium. On Friday, another individual and a relay team joined the party along with Pueblo West's Bradie Menegatti.

Swallows Charter Academy's Kaitlyn Pearson once again repeated as state champion in the girls Class 2A long jump event. Pearson won it with a distance of 16-09.00 which she accomplished during her preliminary jumps. This is the second year in a row that Pearson did not have to attempt a jump in the final heat to win the gold.

She spoke after receiving the medal about what it means to repeat as champ:

"I'm feeling great. I'm really grateful and feeling really supported and loved by my teammates and my family. It's just been so much fun," Pearson said. "That's what I'm really here for, no matter what I jump or run I'm here for fun and just enjoying this year."

Pearson spoke about how the support she has received this year has made a big impact on her reaching her goals.

"I'm grateful that I made it again," Pearson said. "I've had so much support from coach Emily and coach Marcus, they have just been so supportive. I'm just super grateful, happy and joyful."

Pearson will look to add to her medal collection on the final day with three more events including the girls Class 2A 100m hurdles which also features Rye High School's Hailey George.

In addition to Pearson, the Pueblo West girls 4x200m relay team — made up of Nkechi Onyejekwe, Kiera Kirkpatrick, Lilly Morrow and Jamie Suazo — also made it to the podium, earning silver in the event. The relay team has a chance to earn another medal on Saturday during the 4x100m relay.
