HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Sandwich boys and girls lacrosse move to 2-0 with double digit wins

The Sandwich boys and girls lacrosse both moved to 2-0 on the season with double-digit wins.

The Blue Knights (boys) beat Mashpee (0-1) 12-1 Kurt Moniz led the way with four goals, while Dan Oman added two goals and two assists for Sandwich. Cole Rodgers had a goal and three assists, while Jack Connolly and Jack O’Brien each had a goal and an assist. Harry Delman, Sullivan Gaffney, and Braeden Tobin each chipped in a goal.

The Lady Knights beat Silver Lake 16-4. Kyla Darmon and Quinn Anderson each finished with five goals and an assist for Sandwich. Avery Cobban ended with three goals, Kolbie Darmon had two goals and two assists, and Aubrie Schwager contributed a goal.

Boys Lacrosse

Monomoy 15, Cape Cod Academy 12: The Sharks (1-0) opened up the season with a close win over the Seahawks (0-1). The offense was led by Tamer Khalil, who scored 10 goals and dished out an assist for Monomoy. Aidan Stone (two goals, one assist), Jed Zimmerman (two goals, one assist), Seamus St. Pierre (one goal), Joey McKeen (three assists) also contributed, while Jackson Rocco, Braeden Darling, Owen Ramler, and Cole Strzepek each dished out one assist.

Monomoy's defense was led by Max Barrett, Braeden Darling, Jackson Morneau, Max Ramler and Cole Strzepek, while Jake Giorgio had 14 saves.

Girls Lacrosse

St. John Paul II 15, Sturgis East 2: The Lions (1-1) recorded their first win of the season as they beat the Storm. Akira Umbrello had three goals and two assists, while Mia Curley added four goals for JPII. Kate Lawson (one goal, one assist), Charlotte Sturgis (one goal, two assists), and Sophie Philbrick (one goal, three assists) each had goals and assists in the win. Reagan Dillon (two goals), Emma Tucker (one goal), Meah Dalrymple (one assist), Victoria Coholan (two goals), and Lexi McCarthy (two assists) all contributed on offense.

Martha’s Vineyard 10, Monomoy 9: The Vineyarders (1-1) picked up their first win of the season as they beat the Sharks (0-1).

Old Rochester 10, Falmouth 7: The Clippers (0-1) fell short in their home opener.

Softball

Wareham 17, Upper Cape 3: The Rams (0-1) fell in their home opener. Jaelynn Harraden and Grace Delorie each had steals, while the Rams runs were scored by Harraden, Emma King, and Lucy Pesta. Ivy Patton-Salsman and Meadow Deide played well defensively for Upper Cape.

Old Rochester 3, Falmouth 2: The Clippers (0-1) came up just short in their season opener. Rylin Briggs pitched seven innings, struck out 11, and gave up three hits for Falmouth. At the plate, Anna Bennett went 2-for-3, Katie Medeiros was 1-for-2, with a run scored and an RBI, and Christina Femino finished 1-for-3.

Baseball

Upper Cape 15, Wareham 3: The Rams move to 2-0 behind 11 combined strikeouts on the mound from Nolan Roche and Tyler Weston. Jacob Clements had his first varsity hit, and Matt Ansell had his first varsity RBI with a sacrifice fly for Upper Cape. Mitchell Kirkland, Devin Shultze Jake Ewing, Julian Christopher and Matt Niemiec led the offense.

Falmouth 10, Old Rochester 0: The Clippers (1-0) kicked off their season with a home victory. On the mound, Brett Summer picked up the win as he pitched four innings, struck out six, and gave up no runs, one hit, and four walks.

Tre'Chaun Days went 2-for-2 at the plated with three runs scored, Jack Frostholm was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI for Falmouth. Brody Palmer finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Dave Velesig (2-for-2) and Chase Briggs (1-for-2) each had two RBIs and scored a run. Tre Cardoza also added two RBIs, and pitched two innings and allowed one hit, no runs or walks, and struck out one.

Martha’s Vineyard 6, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Vineyarders move to 2-0 with a win over the Dolphins (0-1), and have outscored their first two opponents 16-1.

Boys Tennis

Sturgis 5, Mashpee 0: Sturgis (1-0) picked up the win over the Falcons (0-1) in the season opener. Ray Zhang beat Colin Burgies in first singles (6-3, 6-1), Ben Bass beat Andrew Kelley in second singles (6-3, 6-2), and George Foster defeated James Benners in third singles (6-3, 6-3) for Sturgis. Colby Hall and Fransico Garcia-Raya beat Camden Perry and Jesse Dean in first doubles (6-0, 6-1), while Robert Murray and Thomas Nutbrown defeated Matt Duval and Ryan Hugh (6-0, 6-0) in second doubles.

Nauset 4, Sandwich 1: The Warriors move remain unbeaten at 2-0 as they beat the Blue Knights (0-1).

Girls Tennis

St. John Paul II 5, Barnstable 0: The Lions move to 2-0 with a win over the Red Hawks (0-1). The highlight of the match came between Rosanna Sullivan (JPII) against Isadora Brando (Barnstable) in second singles.

Nauset 3, Sandwich 2: The Warriors move to 2-0 on the season after a win over the Blue Knights (0-1). Nicole Boyce won first singles (6-2, 6-2) over Kaity Landry, Anjali won second singles (6-2, 6-4) over Arianna Tedeschi, and Faye Adams and Elexa Malouin beat Tenley Rothera and Cora Tedeschi in first doubles (7-5, 6-0) for Nauset.

Senja Kravitz and Abby Binienda defeated Chloe Hand and Callie Murphy in second doubles (6-4, 7-6), while Chloe Cahoon beat Sophia Votteler in third singles for Sandwich.

Mashpee 3, Sturgis East 2: The Falcons (1-0) started their season with a win over the Storm (0-1). Mariele Henley beat Keegan Endres in first singles (6-4, 6-2), Hannah Rogers defeated Brooke Gardiner (6-1, 6-0) in third singles, and Emily Doolan and Hayden Shvonski beat Malejah Champayne and Diana Richards in second doubles (6-2, 6-1) for Mashpee.

Darya Cheglakova and Eli Mariaki beat Alina Coolan and Grace Dion in first doubles (6-3, 6-0), while Martina Garcia-Raya beat Esme Milde in second singles for Sturgis East.

Boys Track and Field

Martha's Vineyard 80, Monomoy 47: The Vineyarder boys picked up the win over the Sharks. Enzo Reis placed first in the 110m high hurdles, 400m low hurdles, and the high jump for Martha's Vineyard. Kaniel Morgan finished first in the shot disc, and placed second in the 100m and 200m. Luis Costa won the 400m, and triple jump.

Girls Track and Field

Martha's Vineyard 65, Monomoy 54: The Vineyarder girls beat the Sharks. Juliana Desouza won the 100 high hurdles, and the 400 low hurdles for Martha's Vineyard. Camille Brand placed first in the the high jump, long jump, and 200. Madi Mello won the shot disc.

Girls Golf

Barnstable 7, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Red Hawks beat the Dolphins in the season opener at Bass River Golf Course.

Sailing

Nauset 3, Monomoy 1: The Warriors sailed to victory over the Sharks.

Nantucket 3, Barnstable 0: The Whalers defeated the Red Hawks.
