Monday's Cape Cod high school sports playoff scores and highlights

There were six Cape Cod teams in action on Monday for the MIAA state tournament. Find out which teams advanced below.

Field Hockey

Division 3 Round of 16, No. 8 Dennis-Yarmouth 3, No. 9 Danvers 0: The Dolphins (9-7-4) have not allowed a goal this postseason as they shutout their second opponent.

Boys Soccer

Division 4 Round of 32, No. 16 Whitinsville Christi. 3, No. 17 Nantucket 2: The Whalers (11-5-3) season ended in a penalty kick shootout in their first playoff game.

Division 4 Round of 32, No. 9 Monomoy 5, No. 24 Littleton 1: The Sharks (13-3-3) kicked off their playoff run with a home victory.

Division 3 Round of 32, No. 5 Ashland 6, No. 28 Sandwich 1: The Blue Knights (11-4-4) ended their season on the road. Sam Hart scored the lone goal with an assist from Owen Woodard. They defeated No. 37 Essex North Shore 2-1 in the preliminary round matchup.

Girls Soccer

Division 5 Round of 32, No. 1 Whitinsville Christian 6, No. 33 Upper Cape 0: The Rams (11-6-2) season came to an end in their second playoff game. Upper Cape beat No. 32 Franklin County 2-1 in the preliminary round.

Girls Volleyball

Division 3 Round of 16, No. 6 Old Rochester 3, No. 11 Dennis-Yarmouth 2: The Dolphins' (12-9) road back to the state championship came to a halt as Old Rochester won a close matchup in five sets (19-25, 25-19, 25017, 23-25, 15-12). Mariah Eaton led the offense with 19 kills, while Ellen Swanson finished with four kills and 18 digs. Vivian Castano (30 assists), Meghan Burlingame (four aces, 14 digs), and Juliyana Hristova (seven kills, four blocks) also contributed.

Cross Country

The cross country teams traveled to Wrentham to compete at the Frank Mooney Coaches Invitational on Saturday. Races are divided by grade and separated by large or small schools.

Barnstable - Large Division

Jaxson Merrill led the boys team with a time of 16:47 and placed 15th in the senior race, while Cameron DeGrace (19:55) and Andy Coombs (25:19) also ran well. Gabe Pichardo had the highest place of the day with a third place finish in the junior race and a new personal record of 17:03.

Kevin DeFeudis paced the sophomore boys in 17:16, which was good for seventh place. Other notable performances in the sophomore race were Ryan Wolfe (18:12), Jay Cornwall (20:39, PR), Adrian Pichardo (20:41), and Daniel Gomes (23:08, PR). Logan Lewis ran a 13:38.5 for the freshman boys.

Lily DeDecko had the highest finish for the girls as she placed sixth in the senior race. Chloe Dibb (19:45) came in ninth and Callie DeDecko (21:09) placed 30th.

For the sophomore girls, Kera Clifford (20:55, 10th) had a top 10 finish, while Sophie Murhpy (21:54, 24th), and Makenna Dennis (23.00, 31st) ran their career best times. Jose Jordan finished the race in 28.57. Kemelly Rodrigues (24.15) had her career best for the junior race. Layla Notemyer (14.36) and Layte Dutra (15:06) ran well for the freshman girls.

Falmouth - Small Division

For the junior/senior boys 5K, Adrean Blackwood led all Falmouth runners with a time of 18:44. Conor Furey (20:28) and Gavin Friel (20.59) both finished under 21 minutes, while Mark Davidson (22:10), Griffin Jones (24:16), and Liam Costa (24:27) all finished the season with personal records.

Kunio Saito (21:25) and Jaidon Gray (22:17) both netted personal records in the sophomore boys 5K. The freshman boys 3K race was led by Lukas Bushy (12:02) with a top 50 finish. Mike Dunn (13.26) and Lucas Corriea (13:43) also finished with personal records.

Taryn Joyce led the Falmouth girls in the freshman girls 3K with a time of 14:34 for 37th place, while Isabella Cabral (14:43) also finished strong under 15 minutes for 40th place.

Falmouth Academy - Small Division

Nathan Gartner led the sophomore boys as he claimed the top spot in a time of 16:19. Harrison Webb finished in 21:31. Ari Aretxabaleta finished in 12:47 for the boys. Wylie Wakefield (18:21, 72nd) was the top finisher for the Mariners, while Henry Richins ran 20:20 and Ethan Plotkin finished in 23:12.

For the sophomore girls, Elise Casso came in first place with a time of 19:28.

Martha's Vineyard - Small Division

Enzo Reis was the Vineyarders' top finisher as he placed 41st in the boys freshman race. Greyson Hartzband finished in 13:01. For the junior/senior boys, Rodeo Purves-Langer lead the way in 18:10.

Mashpee - Small Division

Emily Curtin placed 34th with a time of 14:18 in the freshman girls race, while Piper Milde finished in 24:24 for the junior/senior girls.

Monomoy - Small Division

Laura paced the highest for the Sharks as she finished 16th in a time of 13:20 for the freshman girls race. Marie (Remi) Schreiner came in 33rd with a time of 14:14. Megan Gogol came in 51st with a time of 28:10 for the sophomore girls.

On the boys side, Gareth Vos led the way in 34the place with a time of 17:32 for the junior/senior race. Quinn Muldoon (12:28) and Kamalei Hill (14:01) ran well for the freshman race.

Sturgis East - Small Division

The Sturgis East freshman girls team placed second overall led by Claire Heller, who placed fourth with a time of 12:39. Hailey Valencia (13:15, 12th), Artemis Spyrou (14:34, 35th), Francesca Kremer (14:34, 36th), and Layla O'Connor (16:07, 59th) also ran well. Joel Kinkead led the freshmen boys with with a time of 11:25 for 25th place.

Strugis West - Small Division

Hailey Butler led the Navigators with a time of 21:18 for 34th place in the junior/senior race. Abigail Crocker (27:35) and Sophie Zontini (156) all ran well. For the boys junior/senior race, Owen Smith (18:56), Klause Porter (23:42), and Neel Patel (25:24) led the way.
