Lipscomb breaks North Florida, Kennesaw lock on ASUN women's golf championship
Lipscomb University finally broke through the stranglehold that the University of North Florida and Kennesaw have held in ASUN women’s golf.
Led by individual champion Lauren Thompson, Lipscomb shot 40-over at the Hampton Cove Golf Club in Huntsville, Ala., on Tuesday to edge Florida Gulf Coast by two shots and win the ASUN title for the first time in school history.

UNF and Kennesaw combined to win the last seven ASUN titles. All five Lipscomb starters finished among the top-18, with Mary Kate Smith (73) and Mia Seeman (75) tying for 13th.
The defending champion Ospreys tied North Alabama for sixth at 50-over.
It was a good day for Jacksonville University, which finished solo fifth, one shot behind Kennesaw. JU posted its best finish in the ASUN tournament since a tie for fourth in 2018.
The Dolphins were led by sophomore Casey Powell, who was tied for first with Thompson with five holes remaining. Powell made two late bogeys to finish with a 76 and a 4-over total of 220, two shots behind Thompson. JU's Susana Olivares (71) finished sixth at 7-over.
It was the highest finish for a JU individual since Jessica Welch was second in the 2014 tournament. The Dolphins also finished ahead of UNF in the ASUN tournament for the first time since 2013, when UNF was in its first season of women’s golf.
"Casey and Susana did really well and were solid all week," JU coach Kathryn Dougan said. "I'm very proud and happy for this team."
Christin Eisenbeiss of UNF rallied from a pair of 75s and birdied her last two holes for a 69 to tie for second with Claire Vermette of Jacksonville State at 3-over.
Eisenbeiss and Powell made the all-tournament team.
