LCU baseball's South Central Regional postponed a day

The NCAA Division II South Central Region 1 tournament hosted by the Lubbock Christian University baseball team and originally scheduled to start Thursday was postponed a day because of a more favorable weather forecast.

The South Central Regional has six teams, split into two three-team brackets. Top-seeded LCU is hosting No. 4 seed Regis and No. 5 seed University of Texas of the Permian Basin at Hays Field. Grand Junction, Colorado, is the other site with No. 2 seed Colorado Mesa hosting No. 3 seed West Texas A&M and No. 6 seed Angelo State.

Regis (32-22-1) will play UTPB (34-23) at 2 p.m. Friday. LCU (41-14) will play the Regis-UTPB loser at 6 p.m. Friday, and the Chaparrals will play the Regis-UTPB winner at 4 p.m. Saturday. The championship round in the double-elimination tournament will start at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The winners of the two South Central Region brackets will meet in a super regional May 24-25. Super regional winners advance to the Division II championship bracket June 1-8 in Cary, North Carolina.

LCU won the Lone Star Conference regular-season and tournament titles. The Chaps have won 10 games in a row. In the Division II polls, LCU is ranked No. 4 by the American Baseball Coaches Association and No. 5 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
