LB Shemar James making progress and other takeaways from Florida football practice

Florida football held its 12th practice of fall camp on Monday night at the Sanders Practice Fields.

The Florida Gators are in the final week of a 15-practice schedule over three weeks to prepare for their season opener on Aug. 31 at Utah.

Entering season two as coach, Florida coach Billy Napier said he's noticed cleaner execution on both sides of the ball as players have become more familiar with the offense and defense.

"In terms of the precision, you know, the film is cleaner," Napier said. "You know, I do think some of the players we were without affected the quality of the twos in my opinion, because of the depth. But there's a mixture of lineups out there with those groups, but I think when we put our first group out there, it’s starting to look like what it's supposed to look like. "

Here are three takeaways from the 15-minute open portion of practice on Monday:

UF football LB Shemar James back on field, working out with trainers

Florida sophomore linebacker Shemar James was back on the field with trainers for the first time since injuring his knee in the first week of camp. That fuels optimism that James, a preseason All-SEC third team linebacker, will be back in time for UF's opener at Utah.

Also working on the side were quarterback Jack Miller, who sat out the second straight day of live drills with a sore shoulder, and defensive lineman Kelby Collins.

DL Tyreak Sapp working out with UF's ends

Defensive lineman Tyreak Sapp has switched from working out with the tackles under Sean Spencer dto the ends/edge rushers under Mike Peterson.

With the season-ending injury to Justus Boone, Sapp and sophomore Jack Pyburn could be in line for snaps at the strong-side defensive end position. Pyburn has impressed coaches with his strength and motor.

A Miami Dolphins scout watched UF football offensive line drills

A Miami Dolphins scout attended Monday night's practice and watched as UF's offensive linemen went through full contact blocking drills.

In another offensive line note, Lyndell Hudson Jr. is back out of a non-contact jersey and practicing after suffering a head injury in a car accident two weeks ago.
