Larry Johnson, Ohio State adds 5-star defensive lineman Justin Scott to 2024 class

Ohio State's defensive line has landed its fair share of 5-star recruits under position coach Larry Johnson, and the latest is Chicago native Justin Scott.

Scott announced Sunday that he's joining cornerback Bryce West, linebackers Payton Pierce and Garrett Stover and safety Jaylen McClain in the Buckeyes' 2024 recruiting class.

Standing at 6-foot-4, 310 pounds, Scott is the No. 14 player, the No. 3 defensive lineman and the No. 1 Illinois player in the 2024 class. He chose Ohio State over offers from Notre Dame and Miami, among others.

Scott officially visited Ohio State June 23-25.

In the 2023 class, Ohio State secured commitments from 4-star defensive end Joshua Mickens, along with defensive tackles Jason Moore, Will Smith Jr. and Kayden McDonald.

Ohio State is also presumed to be the favorite for 2024 4-star defensive end Marquise Lightfoot, who is scheduled to announce his commitment Monday.

Wide receiver Kaleb Brown, who transferred to Iowa in May, was Ohio State's last signee from Illinois in 2019. Wide receiver Carnell Tate is a Chicago native but played high school football at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Walk-on wide receiver Nolan Baudo is also from Chicago.

Scott is Ohio State's 17th commitment in the 2024 class and is one of 10 players from outside of Ohio including Pierce, McClain, wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham, running backs James Peoples and Jordan Lyle, offensive lineman Ian Moore, quarterback Air Noland and tight end Max LeBlanc.
