Larry Fitzgerald has accomplished a lot in NFL career, from being an All-Pro to playing in the Super Bowl to being on the cover of the Madden videogame. Now it’s time for him to try and conquer another sport, which he got his first opportunity to do so on Tuesday with the Arizona Coyotes.

Fitzgerald is a big hockey fan and grew up rooting for the North Stars in his native Minnesota. So with the Coyotes hosting “Larry Fitzgerald Night” this coming Saturday the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver was invited to hit the ice with some of the players and skate for the first time in his life.

“Just the skill and the art of it is like watching poetry in motion,” he said.

After striking up a friendship with Coyotes captain Shane Doan several years ago, the two have kept in touch as they retained their titles as the faces of their respective franchises. With the team honoring Fitzgerald with a bobblehead night this weekend, it seemed like the perfect time to get the future Pro Football Hall of Famer out on the ice.

With a little help from his good buddy, Fitzgerald scored his first goal.

“I can move my feet or I can handle the puck,” Fitzgerald said. “But I can’t do both at the same time. I just wanted to say I scored one goal.”

The reviews were good for Fitzgerald, who was named co-winner of the NFL’s Man of the Year with New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning during Super Bowl weekend and announced last week that he will return for a 14th season with the Cardinals.

“The willingness to do something out of his comfort zone is always special,” Doan said. “He was a lot better than I thought he’d be.”
