Laconia girls basketball improves to 4-0; Fondy girls, Oshkosh West, Mayville boys all drop first two games of season

Oak Creek 74, Fond du Lac 64 (Friday)

WALES - The Cardinals dropped their 2023-24 season opener to the Knights in the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic after Oak Creek drained 17 of 31 three-point attempts as a team.

Emma Schmidt hit six threes to lead Oak Creek with 23 points and six assists.

Brooklynn Butler scored a game-high 27 points, including five threes, and grabbed nine rebounds for Fondy. Lilly Kejo added 12 for the Cardinals.

WALES - The Spartans made easy work of the Goslings in the first of two weekend games at the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic.

Tierney Madigan scored a game-high 12 points for Laconia while grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out five assists. Payton Morgan nearly had a double-double with eight points, 11 rebounds.

Alyx Johnson led all scorers for Watertown with nine points.

WALES - The Cardinals ran into another hot-shooting team in the second game of the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic as the Lasers made 17 threes as a unit.

Emily Gomez was one of three Kettle Moraine players with four makes from beyond the arc (Schopf, Lodes), finishing with a game-high 20 points. Keegan Lodes added 19 points, Maddie Schopf had 14 and Lola Bond tallied 11 for the Lasers.

Brooklynn Butler once again led Fondy with 19 points.

WALES - The Spartans earned their third straight double-digit victory to sweep both games in the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic and improve to 4-0 on the season.

Finley Morgan led Laconia with 16 points, including four three-pointers. Eva Engel and Callista VandeBerg each added 12 points apiece and Tierney Madigan rounded out the scoring leaders for the Spartans with 10.

Jasonya "JJ" Barnes scored a game-high 22 points for the Hawks and Amiyah Galica added 12 for The Prairie School.

WALES - After holding just a three-point lead over the Chargers at the half, the Wildcats managed to hang on for a close win in the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic and improve their record to 2-1 this season.

Maddie Rasmussen led West with 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Paige Seckar added 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Morgan Toman had 10 points, six rebounds.

Ramsey Botsford scored a game-high 20 points, including four threes, with five assists for Hamilton. Jacy Fierst also drained four threes for 12 points with six rebounds and four steals and Eva Finnesy had an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Chargers.

Verona 67, Waupun 46

WAUPUN - The Warriors led by a point at the break but the Wildcats more than doubled up Waupun in the second half to remain undefeated (4-0). Waupun fell to 2-1.

Reagan Briggs scored a game-high 27 points for Verona.

Kayl Petersen led the Warriors with an 18-point, 16-rebound double-double with three assists and two blocks. Gracie Gopalan followed with 13 points and seven rebounds. Mady VandeStreek contributed four of the Warriors' five steals as a team.

Eau Claire Memorial 88, Oshkosh West 67 (Friday)

OSHKOSH - The Wildcats kept it close in the first half of the Steve Randall Memorial Classic, trailing by just three at the break, but the Old Abes pulled away in the second to earn a 21-point victory and serve West a loss in their 2023-24 season opener.

Cooper Jesperson scored a game-high 27 points with seven rebounds, seven assists, and four steals to lead Eau Claire Memorial. Julius Clark added 17 points, seven assists and three steals and Wesley Mboga had 16 points, six rebounds.

Drew Blair led the Wildcats with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Dylan Taylor added 15 points and eight assists. Sam Gibson and Collin Carns each had 13 to round out the scoring leaders for West.

OSHKOSH - The Wildcats once again played competitively throughout another close first half, but the wheels fell off in the second, dropping the second game of the Steve Randall Memorial Classic to the Raccoons.

Kashton Allen scored 18 points to lead Oconomowoc, tying for the game-high with West's Drew Blair. Lukas Hoffman followed with 15 points while Phillip Borgman and Ben Jimenez each added 10 for the Raccoons.

Dylan Taylor complimented Blair's 18 points with 13 for West.
