What to know as UNCW basketball plays in Fort Myers Tip-Off tournament
We're less than a month into the 2023-24 college basketball season, and we've already reached tournament play.
UNCW (3-0) will compete in the Fort Myers Tip-Off holiday tournament starting this afternoon in southwest Florida. UNCW gets the tournament underway as it faces Murray State at 1:30 p.m.
The Seahawks have started this winter strong, most recently cruising past Columbia International 116-80.

2023 Fort Myers Tip-Off Schedule
Competing in the Palms Division, UNCW is the first team scheduled to start action on Monday. Men's teams play the first three days in two different brackets; a women's event follows starting Thursday, including nationally ranked Indiana and Tennessee.
Monday
Palms Division: UNCW vs. Murray State, 1:30 p.m.
Beach Division: West Virginia vs. SMU, 8 p.m.
Tuesday
Palms Division: UNCW vs. Appalachian State, Noon
Wednesday
Palms Division: Appalachian State vs. Murray State, Noon
Beach Division third-place game, 6 p.m.
Beach Division championship game, 8 p.m.
What to know about UNCW so far this season
Spearheaded by a fast start from star players like junior Trazarien White, UNCW averages over 100 points per game through three contests this season.
White leads the team in scoring (19.1 ppg), while graduate student Shykeim Phillips (12.3 ppg) recently became the newest player in program history to surpass 1,000 points.
"It's a dream come true. This is one of the schools I wanted to play for growing up. Always watching UNCW basketball," Phillips told reporters after the game. "To be recognized is a true blessing."
The Seahawks open play against a Murray State team (2-1) coming off a 17-15 finish last winter. UNCW is shooting 52% from the field and has outrebounded opponents 111-92.
The Seahawks went 24-10 last winter, falling just short to College of Charleston in the CAA tournament final. 2023 marks the first year that UNCW has participated in the Fort Myers Tip-Off tournament.
