What to know about Indiana Pacers second-round draft pick Isaiah Wong

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Pacers used their final pick of the draft, No. 55, on University of Miami guard Isaiah Wong.

Here's what to know about him:

Final Four hero

Wong played for the University of Miami for all four years of his college career and helped the Hurricanes to an unprecedented run in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. As a No. 5 seed, the Hurricanes made it all the way to the Final Four before falling to eventual champion and No. 4 seed UConn.

Wong was the ACC Player of the Year in 2022-23, averaging 16.2 points per game and 44% shooting from the field.

Following in Walker and Brown's footsteps

Wong wants to follow in the footsteps of Bruce Brown and Lonnie Walker, who played at Miami together before being drafted to the NBA in 2018.

Brown just won an NBA Championship with the Denver Nuggets, while Walker comes off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 2023 NBA Draft is the first time since 2018, when Brown and Walker were picked, that two Miami players were drafted. The Phoenix Suns selected Miller with the 48th pick.

Film star

Wong starred in 21-minute short film called "Top Shot," which was written, directed, and produced by Alexander Hagani. The movie is about an 11-year-old boy that is working through his parents divorce and adjusting to a new stepfather. According to the film's website, the boy uses basketball daydreams to escape his real life.

Wong is listed as an actor in the film, but it is unclear how big of a role he has. The film has not yet aired.

Where is Wong from?

Wong will return to the northern part of the U.S. when he comes to the Pacers. He is originally from South Brunswick, New Jersey.

He went to Notre Dame High School for the first two years of his prep career before transferring to Bonner and Prendergast Catholic High School in Pennsylvania for his final two years. He averaged 21.9 points per game in his senior prep season.
