One softball and baseball player are being recognized for their outstanding achievements on the field.
This week, a Pleasant Valley and Foothill high school student-athlete are being highlighted. It's time to meet the two Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for their accomplishments over the last few weeks.

Sport: Softball
School: Pleasant Valley
Class: Senior

Team contributions: Pleasant Valley (21-4) is waiting to learn who it will face in the next round of the CIF Northern Section Division II/III Super Regional. The No. 1 seeded team earned a bye — they will take on the winner of Tuesday's Red Bluff vs. Corning matchup at 4 p.m. Thursday. Helping them this season has been Ella Thurman. Through 52 innings pitched, she has struck out 64 batters allowing 44 hits and 27 runs. At the plate, she has knocked out five home runs, 28 runs, 39 hits, 34 RBIs, 10 doubles and two triples.
Billy Lifvendahl
Sport: Baseball
School: Foothill
Class: Senior
Team contributions: Foothill is coming off an 8-2 loss against Chico but the Cougar's playoff hopes remain alive. Billy Lifvendahl has helped his team along the way, pitching more than 35 innings this season. At the plate, the senior has registered 11 runs, 23 hits, two RBIs and two doubles. The Foothill (14-12-1) baseball team takes on Red Bluff (20-10) at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the four-team double-elimination CIF Northern Section Division II/III Super Regional.
