Kirstie Alley has claimed that she is voting for Donald Trump because of Joe Biden’s “constant” use of “racial slurs”.

The Cheers star faced a backlash after declaring last week (18 October) that she was voting for Trump in the forthcoming US election because he is “not a politician”.

During an appearance on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show to promote her new podcast, Alley said that it was Biden’s track record with “racist overtones” that convinced her to stick with Trump.

“When your gaffes are constantly – when [Biden] said, you know, ‘You ain’t black if you’re not voting for me,’ and, you know, these constant gaffes that have these actual racist overtones,” Alley said.

“And I’m like, no! You maybe get one [gaffe] where you accidentally say something inappropriate, but it's pretty constant. I mean, it is constant, isn’t it? Those are racial slurs.”

Alley’s statement referred to a May interview with Biden in which he claimed that black Americans “ain’t black” if they struggle to choose between him or Trump. He has since apologised for the comment.

Alley did not elaborate on further “racial slurs” Biden has allegedly expressed.

On Twitter, Alley claimed that she is a Trump supporter as he “gets things done quickly and he will turn the economy around quickly”.

Following mocking responses from stars including Judd Apatow and Patricia Arquette, Alley tweeted that she had “never seen so much name-calling in my life”.
