The Worthington Kilbourne girls basketball team has lost its top player, Lauren Scott, who suffered a torn ACL in her right knee in a season-opening 43-31 win over Olentangy Berlin on Nov. 23.

The senior guard, who recently signed with Wright State, will miss the remainder of the season.

“This is a huge blow for Lauren and the team,” coach Stephanie Jones said. “Lauren has so much unfinished business and was just (21 points) away from being the all-time leading scorer in school history.”

Scott, who scored seven points in the opener, trails 2018 graduate Maggie Crozier’s record of 1,213 points.

Scott scored on three consecutive possessions against Berlin, including a step-back 3-pointer. She drove for a basket on the first of those possessions and was fouled and made both free throws on the third.

Two possessions later, she was fouled driving to the basket and landed awkwardly. She left the floor on her own power, but didn’t return.

“She is our coach on the floor and just a tremendous leader,” Jones said. “Her energy in practice to make herself and her teammates better will be missed. I know Lauren will do everything in her power courtside to continue to lead her team and help them compete without stepping foot on the floor. She is a great teammate and basketball player. This is very unfortunate for all of us and unfair to Lauren.”

Scott has been a key contributor since her freshman year, playing 67 games overall. She averaged 21.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.0 steals as a junior, earning third-team all-state, first-team all-district and OCC-Capital Player of the Year honors.

Last year, the Wolves finished 16-8 overall and 7-7 in the OCC-Capital. They lost to Watkins Memorial 65-51 in a Division I district semifinal.

Scott also was a standout field hockey player for Kilbourne.
