Kidder County boys' hoops fall 51-37 to Glen Ullin-Hebron

Jan. 6—JAMESTOWN — The Glen Ullin-Hebron boys' basketball team used a big fourth quarter to get a 51-37 win over Kidder County on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Jamestown Civic Center.

"I think for the first three quarters, we played hard, we stuck to the gameplan, played well as a team, limited the turnovers, passed the ball nice, found the open guy," Wolves head coach Austin Schmidt said. "It was pretty much an all-around effort for the first three quarters there. ... (In the fourth quarter) We let what Glen Ullin was doing effect our game plan. We let them speed us up. We turned it over and couldn't put the ball in the hoop there."

The Bearcats (8-1) were able to stretch their lead out to 17-12 midway through the second quarter. However, the Wolves' Isaiah Oster hit a three to cut the deficit to 17-15 and that started a 10-0 run for them as they headed into the half up 22-17.

The Wolves' (0-6) run continued into the third quarter as they were able to push their lead out to 27-18 before the Bearcats put an end to the run with a Will Mickelson jumper to cut the deficit to 27-20. Late in the third, the Bearcats took the lead at 28-27. The Wolves would retake the lead however and head into the fourth up 29-28. The Bearcats took the lead for good at 36-34 with just under five minutes to go in the game.

"These boys work hard every day at practice," Bearcats head coach Bruce Schatz said. "When they can't score sometimes they get down on themselves. That was the biggest thing, they just started hanging their head a little bit. We come in and halftime and we regrouped. We cut it to one at the end of three and fourth quarter we turned it up. It showed me they wanted to play."

The Wolves are back in action at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, when they host Strasburg/Zeeland.
