Kansas State women's basketball rallies from 13-point deficit for 58-55 victory at Baylor

The Kansas State women's basketball team keeps on rolling.

On a day when they moved up to No. 4 in the national rankings — their highest since 2003 — the Wildcats rallied from a 13-point deficit on Monday night to knock off No. 13 Baylor, 58-55, at Foster Pavilion in Waco, Texas.

The Wildcats scored the game's last six points to pick up their 13th straight victory, improving to 18-1 overall, 8-0 in the Big 12. It was their second win in as many games without injured All-America center Ayoka Lee, who had ankle surgery last Friday and is expected to miss four weeks.

For Baylor, which fell to 15-3 and 4-3 in the league, the loss was its first in its new arena.

The 18-1 start is the best ever for K-State, which beat Baylor in Waco for the first time since Feb. 8, 2003.

For K-State, Serena Sundell, Gabby Gregory and Eliza Maupin each scored 16 points, with Maupin also grabbing nine rebounds while playing 29 minutes off the bench. Sundell added five rebounds, three assists and four steals, while Gregory had four assists.

For Baylor, which lost for the first time in its new arena, Bella Fontleroy had 12 points off the bench, Dre'una Edwards 11 points and eight rebounds and Aijha Blackwell a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.

K-State trailed by 13 points with 3 1/2 minutes left in the first half, but cut it to 39-30 at intermission, then got back in it by closing within 47-44 heading into the fourth quarter. The Wildcats still trailed by three, 55-52, when Blackwell hit a layup with 4:13 left, but that was all for Baylor.

Gregory rebounded her own miss to cut it to one point, and Sundell gave the Wildcats the lead for good, 56-55, on a nifty drive to the basket by Sundell at the 3:27 mark. Gregory scored and was fouled with 1:50 left, but missed the free throw, keeping it a one-possession game.

Baylor missed all four shots and turned the ball over once the rest of the way as K-State held on. Jaelyn Glenn blocked a final attempt by Edwards before the buzzer sounded.

It was a defensive battle throughout, with each team turning the ball over 20 times. The 55 points were a season low for Baylor, which averages 81 per game.

The Wildcats are now off until Saturday, when they play host to Brigham Young in a 4 p.m. game at Bramlage Coliseum.
