Josh Allen sets eyes on breaking Jaguars' all-time sacks record

Jacksonville Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen went through an emotional press conference after becoming the highest-paid player in franchise history.

Allen signed a five-year deal worth $150 million on Wednesday and met with media from the Miller Electric Center shortly after.

He covered a wide range of topics including his journey to this point in his career and his future goals in the league. Those goals include Allen wanting to win a defensive player of the year award and bring a Super Bowl to Jacksonville.

It’s a small portion of the way Allen wants to be remember. A portion of his legacy.

“This is my legacy," he said. "This is something that I built, this is something that I work every day for. It’s something I’m honored to be apart of.”

Those are lofty goals and could take time to achieve, but one goal Allen has his eyes on is very attainable. He is 10 sacks shy from tying the franchise record for sacks and is coming off a 17.5 sack season last year.

He already owns the single-season franchise record for sacks and is looking forward to breaking the all-time record.

“I got five more years to keep stacking and stacking and stacking,” Allen said. “I’m excited for it and whoever comes to try to get my record, it’s going to be a very tall task and I’m going to make it very hard for them.”

Allen is averaging more than a sack a game for his career. If he keeps at this pace for the next five seasons, he’ll not only shatter the record, but make it virtually untouchable.

“I know I’m 10 sacks away from leading franchise history in total sacks,” Allen said. “Tony Brackens, who has become a big mentor of mine throughout these years, just to know I’m right on his heels is a blessing. I passed Calais’ [Campbell] who was another mentor of mine coming in, so knowing that I did that was huge and now it’s Tony.

“I’m going to get emotional again, but I’m going to save that for my wife and I.”

Brackens currently holds the franchise record for sacks with 55 during his time with the club. Allen’s 45 are second-best with Yannick Ngakoue third all-time with 37.5.

Travon Walker is the closest player who currently plays for the Jaguars with 13.5 sacks in two seasons.
