Joel Embiid sporting heavy tape on his wrist at Sixers shootaround

As the Philadelphia 76ers prepare to take on the Atlanta Hawks on Friday to continue with their 4-game road trip, it appears that their star big man is dealing with an injury to his wrist.

Joel Embiid was whacked on the wrist in Wednesday’s loss to the Boston Celtics by Enes Freedom and it appears that it is something that is going to bother him for a bit. As the team convened for shootaround on Friday morning at State Farm Arena, Embiid was sporting a lot of tape on the wrist that looks like it could impact him out on the floor.

“That’s what happens when Freedom has too much freedom,” Embiid joked after the loss. “I got hit there pretty bad in the first quarter. Hopefully, it gets better, but it was pretty painful for the rest of the way. When I was shooting the ball in rhythm, I could feel it. I could feel it most when I was shooting free throws and the 3. Hopefully, it gets better.”

The superstar big man had a miserable game on Wednesday as he shot just 3-for-17. The Sixers will have to figure out how to get Embiid going against a tough Hawks team that offers some good defenders such as Clint Capela that they can throw at him. Philadelphia will also have to figure out what to do with Trae Young when he gets into the paint.

Tipoff from State Farm Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPN.
