Jets signing former Packers backup quarterback Tim Boyle
Tim Boyle, Nathaniel Hackett and Aaron Rodgers will soon reunite in Florham Park. The New York Jets are signing Boyle, who backed up Rodgers for two seasons, to a one-year deal on Thursday, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Boyle is not only connected with Rodgers but also offensive coorinator Nathaniel Hackett, who spent three seasons in Green Bay and now holds the same title for Robert Saleh and the Jets.
Boyle, 28, appeared in 11 games for the Packers between the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He spent the last two seasons as a backup in Chicago and Detroit.
The Packers originally signed Boyle as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Kentucky in 2018. After making the 53-man roster as rookie, he spent the entire 2018 season in Green Bay as the No. 3 quarterback behind Rodgers and Deshone Kizer. Over the next two seasons, he was the primary backup behind Rodgers while playing for Hackett in coach Matt LaFleur’s offense.
Boyle will join Zach Wilson and Chris Streveler at quarterback on the current Jets roster. If nothing else, Boyle will provide another player who knows the offense and terminology and can assist installing the offense from a quarterback standpoint during the offseason workout program and into training camp.
Over 17 NFL games and three starts, Boyle has attempted 94 passes, thrown three touchdown passes and eight interceptions. His career passer rating is 54.5. Over the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Boyle kneeled down 18 times, losing 16 yards.
