Jay Johnson has a big plan for Gavin Guidry in 2023

Gavin Guidry came to Baton Rouge as the No. 1 player in the state of Louisiana, the No. 13 shortstop and the No. 65 overall player in the country.

Naturally, you would imagine that he would be in contention for the second base or shortstop jobs. Head coach Jay Johnson has a bigger plan.

He is going to start training the young freshman to pitch. Does that surprise you? If it does, let’s take a look at his stats as a pitcher last season. He compiled an 8-0 record on the mound with a 0.16 ERA and 83 strikeouts against just 11 walks in 45 innings pitched.

According to Prep Baseball Report, Guidry has a four-pitch repertoire. He throws a fastball, changeup, curveball and a slider. There is no doubt he has the talent to be a great pitcher.
