Javien Pletz's late touchdown lifts Gov. Mifflin football over Carlisle

Sep. 2—A late touchdown lifted Gov. Mifflin over Carlisle on Friday night.

Mustangs quarterback Javien Pletz ran for a 9-yard, game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter to propel Gov. Mifflin to a 28-21 win over the Bison in a non-league game.

Pletz, a junior, finished with two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns. As a team, Gov. Mifflin (1-1) had 286 rushing yards and 38 passing yards.

The Mustangs jumped to a 21-0 lead before Carlisle scored 21 straight points to tie it. Bison quarterback Lucas Smith connected with Carson Swartz on touchdown passes of 90 and 95 yards to get Carlisle back in the game. The Bison finished with 241 yards through the air.
