Jarvis Landry wanted to join Deshaun Watson in Atlanta

The Cleveland Browns haven’t announced it yet but they have acquired QB Deshaun Watson. There are many layers to the quarterback, especially with the allegations that have led to a civil suit with 22 women suing him. That off-the-field issue could be ongoing for a while but is likely to lead to a suspension.

On the field, Watson could be a player other players gravitate toward. We already shared that free agent Jadeveon Clowney quickly took note of the new quarterback in Cleveland. Throughout the NFL, money, coaching and playing with a top-notch quarterback have always been the big factors.

Another current free agent and former Brown, Jarvis Landry, was reportedly interested in teaming up with Watson if he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons. In fact, uStadium quoted their own report and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on a few players who wanted to join Watson in Atlanta:

The Browns had conversations with Landry about returning for 2022, and perhaps beyond, before releasing the slot receiver.

With the reports that Landry was interested in joining Watson in Atlanta, it will be interesting if Cleveland and their long-time locker room leader revisit talks. Leonard Fournette doesn’t fit a need for the Browns but A.J. Green could be of some interest if Landry doesn’t return.

Cleveland has Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones at the top of their receiver depth chart. Anthony Schwartz is entering his second year with high hopes while Jakeem Grant was added primarily for his return skills. Ja’Marcus Bradley rounds out the wide receiver room currently while Demetric Felton can fill in as well.

The team seems to have one or two spots still available on their wide receiver depth chart. A veteran plus a draft pick could fill those nicely. Having Landry return could be a nice story and help lead the team into their new direction with Watson.
