Inland Lakes baseball stays undefeated, Onaway captures Ski Valley Conference sweep

BOYNE CITY – The Inland Lakes baseball team stayed unbeaten by capturing 14-0 and 7-1 victories in a doubleheader sweep at Boyne City on Monday.

Connor Wallace was the winning pitcher in game one, striking out eight, allowing two hits and walking two in four shutout innings.

Aidan Fenstermaker led the Bulldogs offensively with two hits, including a double, while also knocking in three runs. Wyatt Hanel had two hits and two RBIs, while Wallace tallied a hit and scored three runs, Ty Kolly doubled, added an RBI and scored three runs, Logan McMullen recorded a hit and two RBIs, Collin Maves finished with a hit and two runs scored, and Jake Willey chipped in with an RBI and two runs scored.

Kolly’s two hits paced the I-L offense in game two. Wallace doubled, had an RBI and scored a run, Payton Teuthorn registered a hit, two RBIs and a run scored, Cash DePauw added a hit and an RBI, Hanel notched a hit, and Willey scored twice.

Fenstermaker won on the mound, striking out nine and allowing no hits in five innings.

Inland Lakes (6-0) heads to Johannesburg-Lewiston on Friday.

Excellent pitching fuels Cardinals at Bellaire

BELLAIRE – Spectacular pitching helped propel the Onaway baseball team to a sweep at Bellaire with 4-0 and 5-0 victories on Monday.

In game one, Jadin Mix earned the win on the mound, striking out 12 and allowing one hit in six shutout innings, while Dylan Szymoniak’s 16 strikeouts during a six-inning shutout display highlighted the nightcap.

Jackson Chaskey led Onaway’s offense in game one with two hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Gavin Green had a hit and knocked in two runs, Mix added a hit and scored a run, and Luke Lovelace chipped in with a hit.

Szymoniak’s two hits in game two sparked the Cardinals, who received a double, two RBIs and a run scored from Justin Kramer-St. Germain, a hit, an RBI and a run scored from Lovelace, and a hit and an RBI from Anthony Santiago.

Onaway (4-2, 2-2 Ski Valley Conference) travels to Central Lake on Friday.

Pellston gets swept at Gaylord St. Mary

GAYLORD – The Pellston baseball team suffered 15-0 and 11-2 doubleheader losses at Gaylord St. Mary on Monday.

Jack Schmalzried was the losing pitcher in game one, striking out five and allowing eight hits in three innings.

Brett Bonter’s one hit and one run scored led Pellston’s offense in game two. Noah Hansen registered a hit and Lucas Livermore helped with two RBIs. Despite losing on the mound, Hansen struck out 10 over four innings.

Pellston (0-4) hosts Rudyard on Wednesday.
