IHSAA football sectional top performers: Some of these stat lines are hard to believe

Jarrin Alley, Bloomington South: The senior quarterback tied a school record with six touchdown passes in third-ranked Bloomington South’s 44-31 win over No. 1 Bloomington North in Class 5A Sectional 15. Alley had 220 yards passing and 21 rushing yards.

Luke Barrett, Center Grove: The junior safety had two interceptions and a fumble recovery in Center Grove’s 40-14 win over Franklin Central. Barrett returned one interception 47 yards for a touchdown to give Center Grove an 18-point lead late in the third quarter.

Davion Chandler, Lawrence North: The junior receiver caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Montez Jones in Lawrence North’s 38-16 Class 6A Sectional 6 win over rival Lawrence Central. Chandler finished with six catches for 84 yards.

Hogan Denny, Mooresville: The senior quarterback was 14-for-24 passing for 232 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 143 yards on 14 carries, including a 90-yard touchdown run.

Elijah Edon, Eastern Hancock: Edon, a sophomore, was 13-for-16 passing for 247 yards and five touchdowns in Eastern Hancock’s 44-21 win over Cardinal Ritter in Class 2A Sectional 38. Edon also ran for a TD.

Kendall Garnett, Westfield: The junior running back rushed for 102 yards on 20 carries as Class 6A No. 5 Westfield got out to a 28-point halftime lead and cruised to a 37-21 win over Carmel in Class 6A Sectional 4.

D.J. Gordon, Park Tudor: The Harvard commit had another huge game in Park Tudor’s 48-6 win over Clinton Central in Class A Sectional 42. Gordon, a senior, ran for 262 yards and three touchdowns on just seven carries and was 7-for-8 passing for 157 yards and two TDs.

C.J. Harris, Brebeuf Jesuit: The junior running back rushed for 325 yards and six touchdowns on 21 carries in Brebeuf Jesuit’s 70-49 win over Lebanon in Class 4A Sectional 21. Harris also had three receptions for 10 yards and averaged 15.5 yards on four kickoff returns.

Bryce Hughes and Dohnavan Ward, Pike: The quarterback (Ward) and receiver (Hughes) combination led Pike to a wild 42-41 overtime win over Avon in Class 6A Sectional 5. Ward was 11-for-16 passing for 218 yards and two touchdowns and Hughes caught five passes for 120 yards and a TD.

Kyler Kropp, New Palestine: The senior went for 124 rushing yards and three touchdowns in fourth-ranked New Palestine’s 35-0 win over No. 3 Greenfield-Central in Class 4A Sectional 22.

Kaden Lark, Lebanon: Though it came in a loss, the junior had a huge game with 14 catches for 229 yards and a touchdown in Lebanon’s 70-49 setback to Brebeuf Jesuit in Class 4A Sectional 21. Lark also had a 34-yard kickoff return and two interceptions, one he returned for a touchdown.

Khobie Martin, Fishers: The senior running back and Indiana commit ran for 203 yards and five touchdowns as Fishers pulled away for a 42-14 win over Homestead in Class 6A Sectional 3 to earn coach Curt Funk his 100th career win.

Jack Pennington, Seymour: The senior receiver had six receptions for 143 yards and two touchdowns as Seymour defeated Columbus East 39-20 in Class 5A Sectional 15. He also had two PATs and a 51-yard punt. Pennington has 54 catches for 950 yards on the season.

Bo Polston, Decatur Central: The sophomore quarterback was 18-for-30 passing for 274 yards and three TDs as Decatur Central rolled to a 33-0 win over McCutcheon in Class 5A Sectional 13.

Josh Ringer, East Central: The senior running back rushed for 325 yards and seven touchdowns on 24 carries in Class 4A top-ranked East Central’s 56-20 win over Martinsville in Sectional 23.

Logan Shoffner, Noblesville: The senior running back rushed for 244 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries and caught three passes for 66 yards as Noblesville rallied for a 31-24 win over Zionsville in Class 6A Sectional 4.

Slate Valentine, Whiteland: Valentine ran for 274 yards and five touchdowns, including a 66-yarder and 64-yarder – all in the first half – as Whiteland rolled to a 63-15 win over Terre Haute South in Class 5A Sectional 14.

Mark Zackery, Ben Davis: The junior receiver/defensive back made the play of the game with an interception return for a touchdown in in the fourth quarter of third-ranked Ben Davis’ 28-25 win over No. 1 Brownsburg in Class 6A Sectional 5. Zackery also had five catches for 59 yards on offense.
