IHSAA boys basketball: Here's how the sectional road unwinds for Bloomington area teams

The road to Gainbridge Fieldhouse will be delayed a week for those that make the finals due to the NCAA Men's Tournament, but there's a long way to go before that.

Here's a look at the draws from the Bloomington, Bedford and Martinsville areas:

Bloomington North’s Luke Lindeman (22) drives to the basket against Center Grove’s Ben Chestnut (10) and Gabe Baxter (20) during their game at Center Grove on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023.

4A at Bloomington North

Two-time defending champion Bloomington North (10-11) drew a bye but it will likely led to a matchup with No. 10 Center Grove (15-4). The Trojans, who have won 12 of their last 13, the only loss in overtime to No. 1 Fishers, drew Mooresville (7-13) in the second game on Tuesday.

The North Sectional champ, like last year, will play the East Central Sectional champ at regional.

Bedford North Lawrence's Patric Matson (10) splits two Floyd Central defenders on his way to scoring 27 points. BNL defeated HHC foe Floyd Central 68-46 at the BNL Fieldhouse Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024. BNL, 11-5 after the win, faced Evansville Memorial Saturday afternoon.

4A at Seymour

Floyd Central (8-13) and Jennings County (10-12) drew the byes.

The openers on Tuesday will be tough battles, starting with Jeffersonville (13-7) vs. the host Owls (16-4), who have played in five overtime games and beat the Devils, 40-39. Seymour went 5-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference and that loss was in OT to New Albany. The winner gets FC in the semis.

The Bulldogs (14-5) drew Bedford North Lawrence (13-6), a team that is 3-4 since an eight-game win streak. Their HHC matchup from Friday was postponed, so they could meet twice within a week, but no makeup date has been set. The winner gets JC in the semis.

The Seymour Sectional champ will face the Evansville Sectional winner at regional.

Edgewood’s Jacob Boggs blocks a shot from Bloomington North’s Luke Lindeman (22) during their game at Edgewood on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024.

3A at Owen Valley

Edgewood (11-12) will likely have to avenge two season losses to claim a sectional championship.

The Mustangs will start off on Wednesday's second game against Brown County (7-12), a team they beat 74-47 on Jan. 5. That will follow a clash of the two favorites as defending champ South Vermillion (13-8) drew Indian Creek (13-7).

Up top, the host Patriots (6-14) drew West Vigo (11-11) in a rematch from way back in November that OV won by 15. The winner faces Northview (10-11), which is 4-1 vs. sectional foes. The lone loss was in overtime on Dec. 9 to West Vigo, but since then, the Knights have topped IC, OV, Edgewood and BC.

The Owen Valley champion has drawn the Lebanon Sectional champ at regional.

3A at Lebanon

Tuesday's doubleheader sees Western Boone (3-17) drawing No. 1 Danville then Monrovia (11-11) gets No. 13 Tri-West (16-5). The Bulldogs did not play the Bruins this season. Danville's only losses are both to Avon.

Drawing the byes were Crawfordsville (7-13) which is likely going to face Danville and the Monrovia and Tri-West winner gets Lebanon (9-13).

The Lebanon champion plays the Owen Valley Sectional champ at regional.

2A at Paoli

Sectional switches to Paoli for the first time and Linton (16-4) comes in as the five-time defending champion and earns the bye in a lopsided bracket draw.

The Miners will await the winner of Tuesday's opener between No. 8 Sullivan (17-4) and the host Rams (15-5), who are getting votes as well. The Arrows beat Linton at the Wabash Valley Classic, 63-50 and saw an 11-game win streak halted by a 57-55 overtime loss to Indian Creek in a Western Indiana Conference showdown with the title on the line.

Eastern Greene (4-16) draws North Knox (7-13) in second game on Wednesday and the Warriors won their matchup on Dec. 9 by three. That will follow South Knox (8-12) and Mitchell (11-10).

The sectional champ plays the Southwestern (Hanover) Sectional winner at regional.

1A At White River Valley

Lighthouse Christian (6-12) takes on North Central (9-11) in the Wednesday opener. They didn't play this year but the Lions had trouble against sectional teams Shakamak and WRV and will end the regular season at Clay City. The second game pits Bloomfield (10-12), a team more dangerous than its record looks with a handful of losses by three points or fewer, with struggling Dugger Union (4-15).

Up top, Shakamak (11-9) gets the bye and likely awaits No. 4 Clay City (16-5), the clear favorite after going 6-0 vs. sectional foes. The Eels open against White River Valley (7-14) on Tuesday.

Sectional champ faces the Bethesda Christian Sectional winner at regional.

1A at Loogootee

The ping ping balls bounced the right way to keep No. 2 Barr-Reeve (18-2), No. 3 Orleans (19-2) and No. 7 Loogootee (13-7) apart until the semifinals.

Up top, Vincennes Rivet (5-14) drew the bye and awaits the winner between Orleans and Shoals (11-9). Those two just met and the Dogs rolled, 72-26. The bottom bracket sees Barr-Reeve facing Washington Catholic (1-18), the Vikings won their conference game by 55, and the host Lions get Springs Valley (13-8), a matchup which Loogootee won by 31 on Dec. 16.
