IHSAA boys basketball Fab 15: Red and green of Lawrence North on top going into holidays

A few big games coming up on the schedule this week and we start to dip into holiday tournament season. A look at the boys high school basketball Fab 15, a weekly ranking of the top teams in Central Indiana:

1. Lawrence North (5-0)

The Wildcats pummeled Fort Wayne Northrop 75-34 on Saturday in a one-game week. Myles Baker led the way with 20 points and Brennan Miller added 14 points and 12 rebounds. Azavier Robinson sat out due to illness. The Wildcats have a big game Tuesday at home vs. Crispus Attucks and will play at Southport on Friday. Previous: 1.

2. Fishers (7-0)

The Tigers had to grind out a 64-57 win over Hamilton Southeastern in the Mudsock rivalry as Keenan Garner led a balanced attack with 14 points and eight rebounds and Taden Metzger added 12, including a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Freshman Jason Gardner Jr. added nine points. Intriguing game Friday as the Tigers play at Center Grove. Previous: 2.

3. Westfield (5-0)

The Shamrocks ended up with a week off from games due to illnesses. The game at Noblesville, which was scheduled for Friday, will now be played Jan. 17. Westfield will play its final game of the calendar year on Friday vs. Huntington North. Previous: 3.

4. Cathedral (6-0)

The Irish knocked off Tech 62-49 as Keaton Aldridge had 23 points, six steals and six rebounds. The sophomore is averaging 16.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals through six games. Up next: vs. Carmel on Friday in a one-game week. Previous: 4.

5. Noblesville (4-1)

It turned out to be a quiet week for the Millers when Friday’s game vs. Westfield was postponed to Jan. 17 due to illnesses on Westfield’s team. This will be an interesting week for Noblesville, which travels to Marion on Tuesday and Anderson on Friday. Previous: 6.

6. Ben Davis (4-2)

The Giants split the weekend, losing 65-60 at Warren Central before bouncing back with a 49-46 win over Brownsburg in overtime. Ben Davis will play in the West Kentucky Hoops Classic at Caldwell County this week, playing Knoxville Catholic (Tenn.) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Pinson Valley (Ala.) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Previous: 5.

7. Plainfield (6-1)

The Quakers rolled to a 66-44 win over Perry Meridian in a one-game week as senior Collin Schmidt led the way with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Eli Ellis added 15 points and five assists. Plainfield will participate in the Kokomo tournament, opening Friday at 2:30 p.m. against Mt. Vernon. Previous: 8.

8. Brownsburg (5-3)

The Bulldogs split the weekend with a 59-42 win over rival Avon and a 49-46 overtime loss to Ben Davis. Jordan Lomax went for 22 points and five steals in the win over Avon. There is a home game on Friday vs. Crown Point. Previous: 7.

9. North Central (4-2)

Jaxson Bell had 13 points and Papi Rivera added 10 points and five rebounds in North Central’s 53-50 win over Carmel. Up next is an off week before the Panthers’ annual Paul Loggan Memorial Invitational on Dec. 28-29. Previous: 9.

10. Crispus Attucks (5-2)

Dezmon Briscoe had 28 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots in the Tigers’ 62-49 win over Lawrence Central. Mason Lewis added 14 points and four assists. This week: at Lawrence North (Tuesday), vs. Eminence (Wednesday) and vs. Riverside (Friday). Previous: 10.

11. Greenfield-Central (7-0)

The Cougars knocked off Yorktown (54-46) and Lawrenceburg (62-47) to stay undefeated. Braylon Mullins had 24 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win over Yorktown and 21 points against Lawrenceburg with Boston Willard adding 18 points and Braden Robertson 15. Up next: Wednesday at Rushville. Previous: 11.

12. Brebeuf Jesuit (5-1)

The Braves rolled to an 86-57 win over University as Austin Ford led four players in double figures with 18 points, hitting 4-for-5 from the 3-point line. Next up: Friday at Purdue Poly. Previous: 14.

13. Warren Central (2-3)

The Warriors knocked off Ben Davis 65-60 in a one-game week. A big opportunity ahead this week at the Kokomo tournament. The Warriors open with Jeffersonville on Friday at 4:15 p.m. Previous: NR.

14. Lawrence Central (4-3)

The Bears knocked off Pike 69-55 in a game that was called off with about 5 minutes remaining due to a skirmish on the court. Lawrence Central is not scheduled to play again until Dec. 28 vs. Chesterton in the Fishers tournament. Previous: 12.

15. New Palestine (4-1)

The Dragons edged New Castle 61-60 and knocked off Franklin Central 75-56 to sweep the weekend. Julius Gizzi scored 43 points in the latter victory, shooting 13-for-22 from the field and 15-for-17 from the free-throw line. New Palestine is off this week. Previous: 15.

Dropped out: Guerin Catholic (13)

Next five in line: Guerin Catholic (6-2), Franklin (7-1), Center Grove (5-3), Mt. Vernon (3-2), Park Tudor (4-1)
