IHSAA basketball Fab 15: Several big games this week, including Lawrence North-Carmel

A look at this week’s Fab 15, a weekly ranking of the top high school basketball teams in Central Indiana. Several major matchups this week:

1. Lawrence North (17-0)

The Wildcats won a 57-48 slugfest over New Palestine as Azavier Robinson had 21 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. The Wildcats then went on to defeat Hammond Morton 86-48 to stay unbeaten. A challenging week is ahead at Carmel on Thursday and vs. Fort Wayne North Side on Saturday afternoon (4:30 p.m.). 2. Fishers (16-1)

The Tigers rolled to a 65-40 win over Franklin Central, but then saw their 16-game undefeated streak snapped with a 54-46 loss at Carmel. Fishers was just 5-for-10 from the free-throw line and committed 12 turnovers in the loss. No rest this week as Fishers hosts Westfield on Thursday with a chance to clinch the outright Hoosier Crossroads Conference title and then plays one of the top teams in Illinois, Homewood-Flossmoor, on Saturday in O’Fallon, Ill. 3. Westfield (14-1)

The Shamrocks rolled to victories over Avon (62-46) and Victory College Prep (78-20). Trey Buchanan had 24 points, five rebounds and three assists in the win over Avon and Nic Book went for 23 points. Westfield can force a tie atop the Hoosier Crossroads Conference standings with a win at Fishers on Thursday. Previous: 5.

4. Noblesville (15-2)

The Millers survived to defeat Hamilton Southeastern 57-50 in double overtime and then rolled to an impressive 71-41 win over Guerin Catholic. Aaron Fine had 25 points, five rebounds and three assists in the win over HSE and had 16 points and five assists vs. Guerin. Hunter Walston had 17 points in the win over Guerin. Noblesville is at Mt. Vernon on Thursday. Previous: 6.

5. Cathedral (13-2)

Cathedral lost 71-68 to Crispus Attucks in the City tournament championship game, but did bounce back with a 91-73 win over Don Bosco Prep as Aidan Hughes had 21 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and three steals and Brady Koehler had 20 points and nine rebounds. Up next: at Kokomo on Thursday. Previous: 3.

6. Ben Davis (11-4)

The Giants lost a back-and-forth game with Carmel on Friday, 39-36, despite 15 points and three rebounds from Mark Zackery. Ben Davis bounced back with a 55-46 win at Crispus Attucks on Saturday night as Zackery scored 17 points and KJ Windham and Mark White each added 12 points. Previous: 7.

7. Crispus Attucks (15-4)

The Tigers knocked off Cathedral 71-68 for the City tournament championship as Dezmon Briscoe went for 16 points and 11 rebounds. Attucks also knocked off Washington 81-48 and Christel House 73-62 before falling to Ben Davis, 55-46. This will be a three-game week for Attucks with a game at Brownsburg on Thursday, vs. Metropolitan on Friday and vs. Urbana (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon (4:30 p.m.). Previous: 4.

8. Greenfield-Central (16-0)

The Cougars won a classic 74-72 double-overtime battle against Pendleton Heights as Braylon Mullins went for a school-record 51 points and hit the game-winning 3-pointer as time expired at the end of the second overtime. Up next: at Delta (Thursday) and at Greenwood (Saturday afternoon). Previous: 8.

9. Center Grove (11-4)

Joey Schmitz had 15 points and Will Spellman added 11 points and six rebounds as Center Grove knocked off Avon 56-53. The Trojans will host Floyd Central on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Previous: 9.

10. Brebeuf Jesuit (10-4)

The Braves rolled to a 69-42 win over Bishop Chatard as Evan Haywood scored 27 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the 3-point line and Javawn Brooks added 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Braves host Lutheran on Thursday night and play at Park Tudor on Saturday afternoon (2:30 p.m.). Previous: 10.

11. North Central (11-5)

The Panthers knocked off Warren Central 54-48 on Friday night and came back Saturday to knock off Heritage Christian 77-56. North Central hosts Lawrence Central on Thursday night, then makes the lengthy trip to play Princeton on Saturday afternoon. Previous: 11.

12. Carmel (8-9)

The Greyhounds are the only new entry this week after victories over Ben Davis, 39-36, and Fishers, 54-46, to hand the Tigers their first loss of the season. Alex Couto had 26 points in the win over Fishers. Carmel will take a four-game winning streak into Thursday’s home game against Lawrence North, which is also undefeated entrenched at the top of the Fab 15 season since the start of the season. 13. Hamilton Southeastern (12-6)

The Royals bounced back from a 57-50 double-overtime loss to Noblesville with a 60-49 win over Pendleton Heights. Donovan Hamilton went for 18 points, four rebounds and four assists in the win and Braeden Totton added 17 points. Up next: at Franklin Central (Thursday). Previous: 14.

14. New Palestine (12-4)

The Dragons, playing without junior point guard Moses Hayes, nearly knocked off Lawrence North on Wednesday as Julius Gizzi scored 36 points. Gizzi backed that up with a 31-point, nine-rebound performance in a 66-58 win over Yorktown. Up next: vs. Perry Meridian on Thursday and at Southport on Saturday afternoon (2:30 p.m.). Previous: 15.

15. Warren Central (10-8)

The Warriors lost 54-48 at home to North Central but snapped a two-game losing streak with a 64-55 win over Tech the following night. Warren Central has a pair of home games this week against Washington on Thursday night and Franklin on Saturday afternoon. Previous: 13.
