Huff leads CV-S past Wildcats; SK, Unatego win at home

Feb. 1—The Cherry-Valley-Springfield girls basketball team took down Charlotte Valley in 53-34 in a non-league road matchup Thursday.

Morgan Huff led all scorers with 28 points while Brin Whiteman added 11 points in the win.

Ella Gerster led the Wildcats with nine points in the loss.

CV-S will visit Edmeston/Morris Thursday in the Tri-Valley playoffs while Charlotte Valley will host Laurens/Milford Saturday.

South Kortright 59, Franklin 32

South Kortright defeated Franklin 59-32 at home Thursday in non-league action.

Addy Eckert had a game-high 35 points and 19 rebounds while Carlee Dropp added seven points, four assists and five steals in the win.

Shannon Kingsbury led Franklin with 10 points in the loss.

SK will host Gilboa/WAJ Tuesday in the Delaware League playoffs while Franklin will visit Gilboa/WAJ Friday.

Unatego 45, Walton/Downsville 18

The Unatego girls shut down Walton/Downsville in a 45-18 home win Thursday.

Lizzie Craft was the top scorer for the Spartans with 14 points in the win. Harly Birdsall added seven points of her own.

Ella Beardslee and Grace Walley each scored five points for Walton/Downsville.

Unatego will be at Deposit-Hancock next Tuesday while W/D will host Delhi Monday.

Worcester 60, Richfield Springs 47 (Wednesday)

Hailey Shalor scored 34 points to lead Worcester to a 60-47 victory over Richfield Springs Wednesday.

Shalor made 10 of the Wolverines' 14 three-pointers in the win and scored 19 points in the second quarter alone. Worcester netted 30 in the second to take a 41-13 halftime lead.

Angel Mravlja and Bella Head added six points apiece for Worcester.

Anna Hawkes led Richfield Springs with 17 points while Gabrielle Seamon finished with nine.

Worcester honored its senior class of Shalor, Madison Schultz, Faith Meiser, Allison Boyle, Sam Tompkins, Emma Serdy and Elyza Schoeberl.

Edmeston/Morris 52, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton 33 (Wednesday)

Edmeston/Morris defeated Gilbertsville-Mount Upton 52-33 Wednesday in Edmeston.

Molly Rifanburg had a game-high 21 points for E/M while Haylie Lund added 12 points and Brenna Bolton added 11 in the win.

Mackenzie Barnes had 11 points to lead G-MU.

E/M will host Cherry Valley-Springfield in the first round of the Tri-Valley League playoffs Wednesday.

Charlotte Valley 45, Margaretville 12 (Tuesday)

Charlotte Valley cruised to a 45-12 victory over Margaretville behind a 27-4 second half Tuesday at home.

Ella Gerster led the Wildcats with 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals while Jessica Zuill added 11 points and eight rebounds in the win.

Ana Gavette led Margaretville with six points in the loss.

Charlotte Valley will host Laurens/Milford Saturday.

The Cooperstown volleyball team defeated Waterville in straight sets Wednesday by scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-10.

The top performers in the win for the Hawkeyes included Ava Lesko with six digs, Sophia Hotaling with 20 digs and five kills, Alexis Wolfe with seven assists and two digs, Lucy Hayes with 11 assists and eight digs, Violet Gentiles with eight digs, seven kills and three aces and Mia Pelcer with 10 digs and three kills.

Cooperstown will visit Sherburne-Earlville Friday.
