HS Roundup: Sheridan, New Lex pick up sweeps in MVL volleyball action

The area was full of volleyball and boys soccer action on Thursday, and the results are below:

Volleyball

Sheridan 25, 25, 25, River View 23, 23, 20: Jamisyn Stinson tallied 18 kills, 12 digs and three aces and Dylan Fox went 14-of-14 on serves with 21 assists, as the host Generals held off the Lady Bears in Muskingum Valley League-Big School Division play.

Reagan Davis went 13-of-13 serving and made 15 digs to help the defense and Nora Saffell added five kills for the Sheridan offense.

Haley Balo's nine kills and seven digs and Brittany Henderson's 15 digs and two aces paced the River View effort. Kelsie Smith added 14 assists, 10 digs, five kills, three aces and 100% serving, Layla Olinger added seven digs and Avie Wright made three blocks in the loss.

Tri-Valley 23, 25, 25, 25, Maysville 25, 12, 11, 11: Eva Dittmar led the Scotties offense with 16 kills, while Caity Journey made 19 digs and Sami Cameron had five blocks to lead the defense in the four-set win.

Ingrid Dittmar set up 17 assists and was 100% serving and Addison Wilson was also 100% at the service line for Tri-Valley, while Rachel Jarvis collected 11 kills, 12 digs and two aces, Olivia McPeek set out 21 assists and 10 digs and Sailor Atkins had five kills and three digs to pace the Panthers (2-2, 1-2).

Meadowbrook 25, 25, 25, Crooksville 9, 8, 5: Addy Sichina hit 12 kills and Taylor Sichina and Katie Stoney added nine kills apiece, as the Colts swept the Ceramics in Small School action.

Addy Wiggins set up 33 assists in running the Meadowbrook offense, while Avery Black and Taylor Sichina had four aces and Wiggins three aces; and Journey Nicola made 14 digs with Kara Launder, Taylor Sichina and Addy Sichina six digs each.

No leaders were available for the Ceramics.

New Lexington 25, 25, 25, West Muskingum 9, 19, 22: Chloe Dick and Trinity Cook combined for 17 kills and six aces, leading the visiting Panthers to a Small School victory.

Jorja Burkhart passed out 24 assists, Dick finished with nine kills and three aces, Cook added eight kills, four digs and three aces, Gracie Newlon made six digs and served four aces and Abby Wilson hit four kills for New Lex.

No leaders were available for West M.

John Glenn 25, 25, 19, 25, Philo 10, 23, 25, 18: Emma Dolan and Emma Briggs combined for 33 kills and 34 digs and Lauren Blair set up the offense with 41 assists, as the Muskies picked up a road win over the Electrics in Big School action.

Briggs collected 16 kills, 24 digs and two aces, Dolan contributed 17 kills, 10 digs and two aces, Blair also made 15 digs with a pair of aces, Aleea Musselman hit 13 kills with 17 digs and two aces, Sarah Wayne had 13 digs and a pair of aces and Alaiah Johnson added six digs to lead a balanced JG attack.

Aleigha Busse totaled 10 kills and eight kills and Caitlin Rose added seven kills, three blocks and two aces to lead Philo. Olivia Winland made 17 digs to pace the defense, while Liv Fink had nine digs and six kills, Miley Krouskoupf added 13 digs, Addyson Khuney totaled 18 assists and five aces and Khuney, Makenna Staker and Bri Wolfe were 100% serving.

Coshocton 18, 25, 25, 22, 15, Morgan 25, 19, 18, 25, 13: The Lady 'Skins (1-2, 1-1) picked up their first win of the season, as Kenidi Jackson led the offense with 13 kills, while Lacey Guthrie added nine and Saige Abbott had six kills.

Guthrie dished out 20 assists and Lilah Laaper added 13, while defensively, Jaeli Tiedt dug up 10 Raider attacks and Sophia McFadden was tough at the net with seven blocks. At the service line, Lapper led the way with four aces and Abbott added three.

The Raiders (2-1, 1-1) were led by middle hitter Evelyn Newton, who pounded 23 kills and Chloe Baker, who dished out 43 assists. Ashtyn Filkins contributed with 24 digs.

Conotton Valley 19, 25, 25, 23, 15, Ridgewood 25, 18, 9, 25, 10: The Rockets outlasted the Generals in IVC action despite Megan Mainwaring's 13 kills, 14 digs, and three points and Skylar Wright's 21 digs, four points, three aces, and six points in the losing effort.

Tarryn Yoder had 10 assists, five aces, and 13 points, Maggie Shannon made 29 digs with three points, Brynn Waters added 12 assists, three aces and four points, Kya Masloski tallied three kills, two blocks, two aces, and seven points and Kaelyn Scott and Ayanna Masters each had three kills and five blocks for Ridgewood.

Boys Soccer

River View 3, John Glenn 1: The Black Bears picked up a crucial early-season league win over the Muskies, as both teams are now 3-1.

The Muskies got on the board first with a penalty kick scored by Will Nicolozakes early in the first half, but the Bears finally found the back of the net at the 19:26 mark off a solo shot from Cael Summers tying the game at 1-1, which was the score at the half.

River View's go-ahead goal came from a pass from Parker Andrews to Laired Williamson with 22:23 left on the clock, and the final goal was served up by Hayden Walters to Andrews. Layton Massie added seven saves in the goal for the Bears.

The Bears will take on Morgan on Saturday and John Glenn will take on Fairfield Union on Saturday.

Coshocton 4, West Muskingum 4: Jacob Agin converted a penalty kick with Tornadoes rallied to earn a draw with the Redskins in MVL action.

Jaxson Prang had a pair of goals and Aiden Metz also scored for the Tornadoes.

No leaders were available for Coshocton.

Golf

Sheridan boys 166, Northridge 187, Genoa Christian Academy 205: Medalist Canyon Daly posted a 39, as the Generals won a pair of matches at Echo Springs.

Bryce Kelley chipped in a 40, Cody Hupp a 43 and Owen Cains a 44 for the winners.

Philo 174, New Lexington 208, Rosecrans 215: Philo's A.J. Layton was medalist with a 39, while Brandon Stevenson led the Panthers with a 48 and Evan Bauer paced the Bishops with a 50.

Wednesday's results

Girls Soccer

Sheridan 4, Tri-Valley 2: Mikenna Schiele scored twice and assisted another goal, as the Generals topped the Scotties for the first time in program history.

Claire Shriner added a goal and two assists, Siennah Ramirez also scored and Kendall Harter was strong in goal as Sheridan improved to 3-0.

No leaders were available for Tri-Valley.

River View 1, John Glenn 0: Alyssa Fox scored with 7:46 left in the match to send the Lady Bears (3-0, 2-0 MVL) past the Muskies (2-1, 1-1) in an early-season Muskingum Valley League showdown.

John Glenn keeper Bean Sowers had three saves on four River View shots, while River View keeper Regan Foster made eight stops on eight John Glenn shots.

Rosecrans 6, Fisher Catholic 1: Sydnee Maxwell knocked in four goals to lead the Bishops to victory.

Avery Maxwell added two goals and an assist and Ryleigh Maxwell also had an assist in the win, while Annie McGill had the lone goal for the Irish.

Zanesville 5, Lakewood 4: Rylee McCuen scored twice and Reyna Dalton made seven stops to give the Lady Devils their first win of the season.

Emma Williams, Aniah Barnett and Ayanna Stewart also scored for Zanesville.

West Muskingum 7, Coshocton 0: Allison Latier knocked in four goals to lead the Tornadoes in a shutout.

Debra Allen, Aly Woodside and Lyla Johnson also had goals and Johnson assisted a pair of goals.

Courtney Snyder had 12 saves for the Lady 'Skins, who host Tusky Valley at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Philo 3, Morgan 2: Victoria Ligon posted a hat trick to help the Electrics edge the Raiders.

Golf

West M 170, Morgan 182, Crooksville 210: Reid Lemity shared medalist honors for the Tornadoes, who picked up two MVL-Small School wins on the front nine at Jaycees.

Clayton Clewell added 42 and Kyle Porter 44 for West (10-3 MVL); Crooksville's Bo White was co-medalist with 38 and Gabe Sandefur added 50.

Kaden Garrett had 43 and Wyatt Weaver 43 for Morgan.

Rosecrans second at MSL Meet: Evan Bauer carded an 86 and Logan Brown added a 91, as the Bishops totaled 380 to finish second to Fairfield Christian's 336 in the Mid-State League Roundup on Saturday at Turnberry Golf Course.

Fairfield Christian 172, Fairfield Union 182, Rosecrans 203: Logan Brown shot 43 and Evan Bauer added a 45 to lead the Bishops in a tri-match on Tuesday at Valley View in Lancaster. FCA's Teal Harrsion was medalist with a 41.

Sheridan boys 156, Heath 163, Logan 191: Cody Hupp and Owen Cains each shot 38 to lead the Generals to a tri-match win on Wednesday at Coyote Run Golf Course. Wyatt Satterfield carded a 39 and Noah Wamer had a 41.

Tri-Valley 182, Licking Valley 186: Connor Preston was medalist with 41 for the Scotties on the front nine at Virtues.

Daniel Sparks had 42, Xander Smalley 48 and Jou Chow 51 for TV; Shea Lesko's 43 paced LV.

Dover 182, River View 185: Caleb Kline and Thad Cox shared medalist honors with 38, but the Black Bears fell on Wednesday at Hickory Flats.

Isaiah Carpenter shot 51 and Reid Johnson had 58 for River View.

Cross Country

Sheridan sweeps Buckeye Lake Invite: The Generals' Isaiah Brown won the boys 2-mile high school race in 11:08, while Reese Thieken came in second (15:02) and Addie Dennis third (15:32) to lead the Sheridan girls, as both teams won the team title with Millersport and Lakewood.

Millersport's Veronica Rarey posted a winning time of 14:54.
