High school softball: Sectional title streak ends for South Central

South Central's impressive softball sectional championship streak is over.

The host Satellites lost 13-5 to Hebron Thursday night in semifinal play of the Class 2A South Central Sectional.

Class 3A: New Prairie, host Jimtown use strong pitching efforts to reach title game

Hebron (25-3) advances to play Wheeler (19-6-1) in the title game Saturday.

South Central had won eight straight sectional titles, tied with Penn for the longest active streak in the state.

Hebron, which beat South Central 7-4 and 5-0 during the regular season, built an 8-1 lead. Sophomore Macey Siminski and junior Emily Michalak each hit a three-run homer for the winners.

South Central finishes at 15-9.

In other area sectional semifinal play Thursday, Triton rolled past Michigan City Marquette Catholic 20-3 at the Class 1A Westville Sectional. The Trojans (5-18) advance to play Westville (17-8) in the sectional finale Friday night.

Rensselaer Central and Tippecanoe Valley each picked up wins in semifinal action at the Class 3A Kankakee Sectional. Central (6-18) edged past Knox 6-5 and Tippecanoe Valley (16-6) beat Kankakee Valley 10-6. They will face off for the sectional title on Saturday back at Kankakee Valley.

Championship games at South Central and K . Valley are Saturday. Title game at Westville is on Friday night.
