High school soccer roundup: Late game-winner gives Southeast victory over Creek; Lady Raiders down Coahulla 7-0

Southeast Whitfield 2, Coahulla Creek 1

Southeast Whitfield (2-4) shut down cross-county rival Coahulla Creek (3-2-1) 2-1 Thursday night.

Southeast led 1-0 at halftime and the two teams exchanged goals after half.

Joseph Pina put in the first-half goal just four minutes into the game. Creek equalized with 16 minutes to play when Cruz Barcenas rocketed in the tying goal from 35 yards away.

Southeast scored the winner with 2:49 left. A pass from the keeper spot perfectly set up Pina with a breakaway. Pina managed to get a dribbling ball past Creek's keeper, and a charging Colt defender wasn't in time to keep it out of the net.

Creek plays LaFayette at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m., while Southeast will be at Cass Tuesday at 7:30.

Dalton 6, Heritage 2

Dalton (4-1) rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 6-2 win over Heritage (3-3) Wednesday.

Romeo Chavarria scored a pair of goals, while Jose Tapia, Darwin Peinado and David Saldana each put in one. Saldana and Ivan Rodriguez each had two assists, and Peinado had one. Dalton outshot Heritage 17-4.

Dalton plays at fellow state power Johnson tonight at 7:30.

Northwest Whitfield 4, Calhoun 1

Northwest Whitfield (2-0-2) downed Calhoun (3-2-1) 4-1 on Wednesday.

Freddy Lara scored two goals, while Connor Stiles had a goal and an assist. Yahir Navarro had the other goal. Chris Tapia and Matthew Molina each had an assist.

Northwest plays East Hall tonight at 5:30.

Southeast Whitfield 7, Coahulla Creek 0

Southeast Whitfield (5-0) continued an unbeaten start to the season with a 7-0 win over Coahulla Creek (3-3) Thursday night.

Southeast has scored three or more goals in each game and has put up seven or more twice.

Southeast got six goals from six different players, and the seventh Lady Raider goal was credited as an own goal by Creek. Mayah Camacho, Allison Maldonado, Daisy Hernandez, Tania Dominguez, Gracie Ramirez and Leighanne Torres each scored a goal.

Creek, after losing two straight, hopes to bounce back Tuesday at 5 p.m. vs. LaFayette. Southeast next plays Fellowship Christian on March 1.

Northwest Whitfield 9, Calhoun 1

Northwest Whitfield (4-1) pounded Calhoun (1-3) 9-1 Wednesday.

Jasmin Cortez, Meryl Clark and Sadie Clark each had two goals, and Sadie Clark had three assists. Sofia Ortiz had a goal and three assists, while Yuliana Herreda and Lexi Lyon each had one goal and one assist.

Wednesday's game marked the third time through just five games that the Lady Bruins scored nine goals or more.

Northwest plays at Dalton on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Murray County 8, Christian Heritage 0 Murray County 5, Dalton Academy 0

Murray County (3-3) played a home doubleheader Thursday night to makeup for a game that had been rescheduled, and the Lady Indians collected shutout wins in both games.

Murray downed Christian Heritage (0-2) 8-0, then defeated Dalton Academy (0-6) 5-0.

Murray is at Fannin County Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Christian Heritage and Dalton Academy play each other tonight at 5.
