HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Upper Cape boys golf wins Vocational State title

The Upper Cape boys golf team claimed the 2023 State Vocational Championship for the Small School Division, the team's second in three years, after earning the win at Acushnet River Golf Course. The Rams' team total was 316, and they were led by Asher Graff, who shot a 76, Matt Nawoichik's 77, Zephyn Johnson's 80. All three received medals at the event.

Golf

St. John Paul II 242, Nantucket 246: Jack Carstensen and Timmy Adams both shot a 37 to lead the Lions (14-0) to the narrow victory over the Whalers (8-3), clinching at least a share of the Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division title in the process. Matt Curley and Drew Richards shot a 41. Henry Kathawala shot an even par 35 to lead the Whalers, and Braden Knapp shot a 39.

Norwell 130, Mashpee 59: Jackson Carlson shot a 48 and scored a match high 14 points for the Falcons (0-11). Liam Hansford shot a 51 (11 points), and Michael Barron recorded a 52 (nine points).

Cape Cod Academy 280, Sturgis West 284: The Seahawks (6-7) narrowly defeated the Navigators (3-4).

Nauset 233, Martha’s Vineyard 251: Jack Martin's 35 paced the Warriors (10-2) to the win over the Vineyarders (3-5). Max St. Aubin finished with a 37, and Sean Kipperman ended his day with a 38 to round out Nauset's top three.

Bourne 247, West Bridgewater 302: The Canalmen improve to 9-3.

Girls Soccer

St. John Paul II 8, Nantucket 1: In their Breast Cancer Awareness Day, the Lions (6-2-1) beat the Whalers (4-6) to win their fifth straight game. Senior Ella Cheney had a monster day for the Lions scoring four goals and laying on one assist on the day to lead them to the win. Raegan Dillon also had a big day, scoring twice, and also tallying three assists. Addy Cheney had a pair of goals, and Michaela Enright set up two goals for the Lions. Emma Collette and Winnie Hatch also had standout performances.

Hull 3, Sandwich 1: Izzy Bar scored the lone goal of the game for the Blue Knights (5-4-1). Julia Sutton and Ayla Whitney both played well defenisviely.

Monomoy 5, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: Karah Deveau scored twice and had one assist to lead the Sharks (9-3-1) to the win over the Dolphins (1-10). Kiki Pigo Cronin, Karlie Monteiro, and Lily Furman all found the back of the net as well, with Monteiro also adding an assist.

Cape Cod Academy 7, Atlantis Charter 0: Jenna Marsh scored four goals as the Seahawks improve to 3-4 on the season. Lili Shanahan had a goal and an assist, and both Ava Johnston and Maeve Lopes found the back of the net.

Falmouth 7, Barnstable 0: Riley Devlin had a hat trick to pace the Clippers (4-4-2) in their win over the Red Hawks (0-8). Eleanor Ralston had a free kick goal, Moe Lind had a solo goal, defender Molly Belfiore had a goal, and Isabella Correia rounded out the scoring.

Old Colony 6, Cape Tech 0: The Crusaders fall to 0-6.

Nauset 3, Martha’s Vineyard 1: After Audrey Height set up Emily Coogan for the Vineyarders (6-3), the Warriors (7-2) responded with three unanswered goals to secure the win. Georgie Orlandella headed home a corner from Caroline Kennard for the equalizer. Ellie Stewart tapped in a rebound to give Nauset the lead, and Caroline Lovati polished off the win with a goal off a cross from Maddie Coccoro.

Boys Soccer

Upper Cape 2, South Shore 0: Jadon Barton found Gabe Vasconcelos to score the Rams (7-1-1) first goal of the game. Gideon Drury set up Ryan Besse for the second goal of the night.

Monomoy 2, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: Ryan Laramee had a brace to lead the Sharks (9-2-2) past the Dolphins (4-5). Jonas Rocha scored the Dolphins lone goal.

Cape Tech 1, Old Colony 1: Jace Clady scored the equalizer for the Crusaders, clinching a point for Cape Tech (2-5-2). Connor Gibson had the assist, and both Kyle De Freitas and Gabriel Martins led the defensive effort.

Nauset 2, Martha’s Vineyard 1: Charlie Cushing scored twice to lead the Warriors (7-1-2) past the Vineyarders (4-3-1). Dominic Bebber recorded the clean sheet in goal, aided by a strong performance from Nauset's back four.

Atlantis Charter 2, Cape Cod Academy 1: The Seahawks fall to 1-6.

Sandwich 5, Hull 2: The win takes the Blue Knights to 6-2-2.

Nantucket 2, St. John Paul II 0: The Whalers (5-2-3) scored twice in the first half to beat the Lions (3-4-2). Calvin Guerra scored the opener off a feed from Edin Vazquez, and Anderson Diaz set up Elvis Alonzo for the second goal. Alex Ivilov made five saves in net en route to the clean sheet.

Rising Tide 0, Sturgis East 0: Isaac Rocha recorded his third clean sheet of the season, and the Storm (4-3-3) extended their unbeaten streak to four straight games.

Randolph 3, Mashpee 1: Mashpee drops to 3-5-1.

Barnstable 3, Falmouth 2: The Red Hawks (4-2-3) outlasted the Clippers (1-7-2).

Girls Volleyball

Sandwich 3, Abington 1: Mia Mulcahy had 18 assists to lead the Blue Knights (5-5) back to .500. Ella McCabe had ten kills, and five aces in the win.

Cape Tech 3, Bristol Aggie 0: Sarah Feliz de Jesus had 11 kills, and Laura Feliz de Jesus had nine kills to lead the Crusaders (10-2) to the sweep (25-9, 25-9, 25-13).

St. John Paul II 3, Sturgis East 0: The Lions improve to 8-2 after beating the Storm (3-5) in three sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-19). Zlata Alioshka (27 assists, 13 digs) and Rosanna Sullivan (11 kills, 12 digs) both had double-doubles in the win. Molly Pulit had 24 digs.

Norfolk Aggie 3, Upper Cape 0: The Rams fall to 0-12.

Bourne 21, Monomoy 8: Ty Kelley had another do-it-all performance as the Canalmen (3-2) beat the Sharks (2-3) on the road. Kelley had two rushing touchdowns on offense, kicked an extra point, and had an interception on defense. Chase Yarletts had a rushing touchdown for the Sharks.
