BASEBALL

Division I

Central 5, Portsmouth 4

Adonis Medina's walk-off 2-run homer lifted the Knights, who had been trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Medina is hitting .524 on the season. The blast made a winner out of pitcher Aaron Vega. Central improves to 4-12 in league play, while the Patriots slip to 8-7.

Coventry 3, Lincoln 0

Coventry’s Logan Downey went the distance, throwing a 3-hit shutout while striking out 12. At the plate, Downey doubled in a run and Logan Moore’s base hit in the 1st inning drove in the eventual game winner. Brennan Robert had 2 of Lincoln’s 3 hits on the day.

Division II

Barrington 6, Narragansett 0

Jack Lawson had a solid outing on the mound as he threw six scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits with 8 Ks as the Eagles shut out the Mariners. Carrying the offense for Barrington were Quinn Murphy and Miles Fontaine with 3 hits each and Lucas Tanous had a pair of hits. Zayden Kent got the nod on the mound for Narragansett and gave up only one earned run in 5 innings of work.

East Greenwich 6, St. Raphael 2 (9 inn.)

Sean Giannelli was masterful on the mound for the Avengers, striking out 10 over 7.1 innings. And his bat that drove in the eventual game-winning run in the top of the ninth. Alex DeTomasis and Alex Tullo also had two hits apiece for East Greenwich. Jack Drolet pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. Tyler Tremblay and Mike Frausto each had 3 hits for the Saints, including a double and triple, respectively. Aiden Cherniawski was the hard-luck loser, striking out 9 and giving up just one earned run over 7.2 innings.

Westerly 2, East Providence 1

The Bulldogs plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to edge the Townies in their Division II matchup. Zack Miner paced Westerly, going 2-3 at the plate and scoring twice. Luke Gwaltney and Jayden Parker each drove in a run, and Jack Tenuta struck out 7 over 6 innings. Miner got the win after 1 inning of scoreless relief. For EP, Tim Robitaille was 2-4 and Dylan Amicelli took the loss after 6.1 innings with 6 strikeouts.

North Providence 7, Chariho 0

Tony Abed was 1-3 with a pair of RBI, as Ronald PauxJohn Raftery and Jayden Allard also drove in runs for the Cougars. On the mound, Vincent Pontarelli collected the win over 6 complete in an efficient outing with 6 K's and no walks. Gavin Apice had 3 of Chariho's 6 hits in the loss.

Division III

West Warwick 15, Juanita Sanchez 4

The unbeaten Wizards plated three runs in the first inning, and kept on scoring in every inning thereafter in this mercy rule-shortened affair. Leading the way for WW (10-0) was Mason Hunt, who belted a grand slam in the third inning. Three batters later Dom Carollo hit a two-run blast. Josh Pedus also homered, in the fourth. On the mound, Hunt earned the win, allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs over 3 innings, with 4 strikeouts. For Juanita Sanchez, Luis Garcia was 2-2, with 2 runs scored and an RBI in the loss.

Scituate/Rocky Hill 8,PCD 2

Travis Howman drove in a pair of runs on a 2-run home run, to pace the Spartans over PCD. Paul Zolkos and John O'Hara also had a pair of RBIs in the victory. On the mound, Bryan Guy struck out 8 over 4.1 innings and Howman fanned 6 more in the final 2.2 innings.

Rogers 17, BVP/Central Falls 7

Robert Dufault was 2-2 with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scores, Cole Marley drove in 3 more, going 2-2 with a run scored and Trenton Carter was 3-5 with 2 RBI as the Vikings scored early and often in this mercy rule-shortened game. Jack Rosa earned the win, striking out 6 over 3 innings. For BVP, Alex Torres drove in 3 runs on 2-4 hitting.

North Smithfield 2, Classical 0

Kayden Artruc fired a 2-hitter, striking out 9 while walking only 2, and Nick Trembley and Dylan Nickerson each drove in a run as the Northmen (8-7) held off the Purple (8-6).

SOFTBALL

Division I

La Salle 15, East Providence 1

Starting pitcher Kayleigh Gouchie went the distance (5 innings due to the mercy rule) allowing only 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 7 as the Rams' breezed past the Townies in a rout and remain undefeated at 16-0. La Salle's offense made life easy for Gouchie with a 15-run output, including home runs from Nikki Pallotta and Diana Hall. Both players had two hits and 2 RBI. Trinity Provencher accounted for EP's only run - a solo homer in the second inning.

East Greenwich 6, Smithfield 4

The Avengers erupted for 3 runs in the top of the seventh inning as they came from behind for their 10th win in 17 games. Margaret Neville finished with a pair of hits and 3 RBI and Sarah Levy tripled and drove in 2 runs. Lily Riggin also tripled and knocked in 3 runs for the Sentinels, now 5-10.

Cranston West 16, Cumberland 8

The Falcons cracked three home runs and Sofia Marella delivered a pair on her senior night. The Falcon catcher smacked the first home run in the opening frame as the two-run shot cleared the Brayton Avenue Softball Complex’s 200-foot fence in left-center with ease. The second home run came in the fifth with the Falcons leading 11-5. The right-handed power hitting Marella hit a foul ball to the pull side that had the distance, but returned later in the at-bat for a two-run homer to the opposite field. Jenna Malloy also crushed a home run for Cranston West in the fourth inning as the Falcons broke open the contest. The Falcons managed 16 hits behind Mia Crudale’s five innings of work on the mound. The win moves Cranston West (9-7) into a three-way tie for fourth in Division I.

Division II

LNP 20, Mt. Hope 1

Makenna Heon and Mariana Xavier collected 4 hits apiece and Kayla-Jo MacchioCaroline Ricci and Xavier each drove in 3 runs as Lincoln/North Providence pounded out 21 hits en route to the rout. The co-op team improves to 9-4, while the Huskies slip to 2-11.

Johnston 6, Narragansett 1

Lexi DiLorenzo went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored and Layla Bryand also had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Panthers. In the circle, Haley Boudreau hurled a three-hitter, striking out 14 and walking none en route to the victory. Payton Abrams led the Mariners with two hits, including an RBI double in the loss.

Westerly 18, South Kingstown 5

Tori Gabrielle led the Bulldogs by going 3-3 at the plate, with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Alexandra Stoehr also drove in 3 runs, and Emma Caracciolo, Lillian Vetelino and Isabella Mazzareze each had 2 RBIs in the win. In the circle, Sophia Valentini struck out 5 over 4 innings and Lyla Auth pitched the final inning, striking out 3. For the Rebels, Bianca Harding hit a 5th inning home run, going 3-3 with 3 RBIs and a run scored in the loss.

West Warwick 10, Barrington 0

Olivia Zajdek paced the Wizards with 4 hits, and Adrianna Carsetti had 3 hits. Ariana Renzi had one hit for the Eagles. On the mound, West Warwick's Emma Pinault threw three inning, with 2 hits allowed and 3 strikeouts. Bryce Principe threw two innings of relieve with 1 hit allowed and 3 strikeouts.

Scituate 5, Woonsocket 3

Kate Nickerson and Victoria Geisser each drove in two runs to power the Spartans past the Villa Novans. Nickerson went the distance, striking out 15 and allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs over 7 innings. For Woonsocket, Alanna Colon was 2-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored and Julia Raymond took the loss (10 strikeouts, 4 earned runs over 6 innings).

BOYS LACROSSE

Division I

La Salle 25, Portsmouth 5

The Rams (13-1) were led by Miles Marino with 6 goals and 1 assist, Drew Bradley had 5 goals and 1 assist, Matt Hayes had 2 goals and 4 assists, and Christian Koness had 2 goals and an assist. For the Patriots (3-10) Jack Colna was peppered with 40 shots and had 15 saves. Aiden MasonIndy Pacheco, and Chase Pascoe each had 1 goal and 1 assist.

Division III

Westerly 14, Ponaganset 4

Caleb Williams fired in 5 goals, Ian Morissette netted 4 and Luke Nelson notched a pair as the Bulldogs improved to 12-1 to move to the top of their division with the win. Brady Sirois finished with a hat trick for the Chieftains, who are now 2-10.

Division IV

Tiverton 11, Classical 0

Miles Cormier's 7 goals paved the way for Tiverton's victory over Classical. Aiden Champ also had 2 goals for the Tigers in the win. Goalie Edward Galts had 19 saves for the Purple in the loss.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Division I

North Kingstown 20, Smithfield 6

Phoebe PullybankJordan Parris and Mya Macchioni each scored 4 goals for the Skippers and Cameryn Clarke netted 3 more as NK ran out to an 11-4 halftime advantage and didn't slow down in the second half. Netminder River Andersonmade 2 saves in the victory, keeping NK (10-0) unbeaten on the season. For the Sentinels (5-7), Chloe Alberet scored a team-high 2 goals and Avery Areson and Isabella Bettencourt each had a goal and an assist.

Division II

Burrillville 11, Mt. Hope 1

Olivia Fullam led the Broncos with 4 goals, Nada Gomes added 3 more and Olivia Ferraro made 5 saves in the win. For the Huskies, Maria Lacey scored her team's lone goal.

Chariho 14, Toll Gate 4

Chaia Elwell led all scorers with 6 goals and Emily Ballard added 4 more as the Chargers rolled to a 14-4 victory over the Titans. Alexis Comella and Kayden Jaillet contributed to the win with a couple of goals each.

Division III

East Providence 15, Ponaganset 7

Five goals from Alyssa Karalekas, 4 from Kloey Iacovone, 3 from Katherine Almeida and 2 from Kena Wigginton along with 8 saves by Ava Williams in net, lifted the Townies to their seventh win in 12 games. The Chieftains, now 4-6, got 2 goals apiece from Maggie Lacroix and Isabelle ShieldsEden St. Pierre had 14 saves.

Westerly 17, Bay View 4

Hannah Seltzer scored 6 goals, including the 100th of her high school career, and set up 2 others, and Casey Macera also netted 6 goals as they led the division-leading Bulldogs to their 12th win in 13 matches. Erica Nyberg chipped in with 2 goals for Westerly. Annabella Tracy had 2 goals and an assist for the Bengals, now 6-5.

Jet Nascimento accounted for 20 kills,  6 digs and 3 blocks and Omotebi Ijifisoye chipped in with 7 kills and 4 blocks, sparking the Knights to victory, 25-20, 25-16, 25-23, their fifth in 14 matches. Jared DosRemedios had 10 assists and 3 aces for the Patriots (0-14).

Westerly 3, Woonsocket 0

Jack Kenyon recorded 12 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs and 3 assists and Henry Kenyon posted 8 kills and 5 blocks as the Bulldogs swept the Villa Novans, 25-18, 25-19, 25-10.

Lincoln 3, Cranston West 1

Brian Gugel led the Lions with 21 kills and 2 blocks, Wayne McNamara and 19 kills, 6 blocks and 21 digs and Jacques Guerrier had 30 digs and 3 aces in the win, 27-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-17. For the Falcons, Chris Harvey had 22 kills and Ashton Mak had 12 digs and 32 assists in the loss.
