HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Monomoy boys lacrosse tops Cape Tech behind scoring barrage

Five different players on the Monomoy boys lacrosse team scored at least three goals as the Sharks shut out Cape Cod Tech, 19-0, on Monday.

Christian Whittle (four goals, three assists), Jackson Rocco (four goals, one assist), and Owen Dubis (four goals, one assist), led the way for the Sharks (12-3) offensively. Seamus St. Pierre (three goals, one assist), and Aidan Stone (three goals) also had hat tricks in the win.

Max Barrett, Braeden Darling, Jordan Charlot, Jackson Morneau and Jake Gorgio all had standout games defensively, while Charlie Hamilton (one goal) and Max Barrett (one assist) also got on the scoresheet.

Boys Lacrosse

Sandwich 10, Bridgewater-Raynham 6: Hunter West-Mather led the Blue Knights (10-7) with four goals as they won on the road. Avery Richardson and Cole Rodgers each had two goals and two assists, Connor Stack won 12 faceoffs, and added two goals himself, and Shane Corcoran made nine saves in net.

Bourne 14, Upper Cape 12: The Canalmen improve to 8-9 with the win over the Rams (6-12).

Barnstable 18, Dartmouth 7: The win takes the Red Hawks to 3-14.

Girls Lacrosse

Sandwich 15, Dennis-Yarmouth 2: Eleven different Blue Knights scored goals in their win over the Dolphins (2-13). Kyla Darmon, Katie Barrett, Ryann Cobban and Quinn Anderson all had two goals apiece. Avery Cobban, Riley Morrison, Kolbie Darmon, Meg Barrett, Julia O'Neill, Elisabeth Stutzman, and Maggie Konary all found the back of the net as well for Sandwich (14-3).

Cape Cod Academy 20, Mashpee 10: Ella Bartolomei led the way with nine goals and two assists as the Seahawks (10-7), beat the Falcons (7-13). Tilly Crosby (six goals, three assists), Reese Moreshead (one goal, three assists), Scotia Crosby (two goals, two assists), and Quinn Powers (two goals, one assists) all had at least three points.

Nantucket 18, St. John Paul II 4: The Whalers are 13-3, and the Lions are 9-6.

Bourne 10, Upper Cape 5: Bourne improves to 8-11 with the win over the Rams (15-3).

Baseball

Sandwich 6, Pembroke 3: Sandwich (15-3) ends the regular season with a win and an undefeated record at home. Ty Creighton came on to pitch in relief and earned the win, while also driving in two at the plate. Mitch Norkevicius also had two hits.

St. John Paul II 10, Abington 5: The Lions are now 12-6.

Carver 4, Sturgis 4: Sturgis (8-5-1) took the tie.

New Bedford 6, Falmouth 1: The Clippers fall to 6-10.

Apponequet 9, Bourne 6: The Canalmen (11-7) fell in their final conference game.

Marshfield 12, Nauset 9: The Warriors fall to 6-12.

Mashpee 9, Rockland 1: The Falcons are now 11-6.

Softball

Cape Tech 19, St. John Paul II 7: Bailey McMakin and Shelby Smith combined to earn in the circle the win for the Crusaders (3-12). The loss drops the Lions to 5-12.

Plymouth South 9, Falmouth 3: Kaylee Shaw and Anna Velesig each had two hits for the Clippers (7-10). Shaw scored a run, while Velesig had an RBI, in addition to her six innings and three strikeouts in the circle. Anna Bennett, Molly Belfiore, and Katie Medeiros each added a hit, and Belfiore scored a run.

Apponequet 1, Bourne 0: Jadyn Morrell pitched eight innings and struck out nine in Bourne's extra-innings loss. Meghan Roche and Paige Meda each had a hit for the Canalwomen (9-8).

Nauset 22, Upper Cape 6: The Warriors improve to 14-5 behind big offensive days from Jillian Parrott, Ava Doyle, Lilli Hay and Molly Farrell. The Rams drop to 4-12.

Scituate 13, Barnstable 12: The Red Hawks fall to 5-13.

Rockland 9, Mashpee 1: The Falcons are now 4-15.

Boys Tennis

Barnstable 5, Monomoy 0: The Red Hawks swept the match. Kyle Medeiros (first), Brendan Riley (second) and David Perry (third) swept the singles matches while brothers Eric/Alex Arabadzhiev (first) and Mike Higginbothom/Connor O'Reilly (second) took the doubles matches.

Sturgis West 4, Sandwich 1: Ray Zhang (6-1, 6-1 at second singles), Ben Bass (6-0, 6-0 at third singles),  Colby Hall/Francisco Garcis Raya (6-0, 6-0 at first doubles), and Thomas Nutbrown/Robert Muhov (6-0, 6-2 at second doubles) all won to help the Navigators improve to 12-2.

Bridgewater-Raynham 4, Falmouth 1: The Clippers fall to 3-12.

Nauset 5, Wareham 0: The Warriors improve to 13-2.

Rockland 4, Mashpee 1: Mashpee falls to 1-11.

Girls Tennis

Nantucket 4, Sturgis West 1: The Whalers improve to 7-9, and the Navigators fall to 2-8.

Monomoy 5, Sturgis East 0: The Sharks finish the season 13-5 behind wins from Tatiana Malone (7-5, 6-2 at first singles), Lilly Gould (6-1, 6-1 at second singles), Jocelyn White (6-1, 6-1 at third singles), Alyson Morris/Christie Beckley (6-1, 6-1 at first doubles), and Cassidy Parker/Sarah Poskanzer (6-1, 6-1 at second doubles). The Storm drop to 2-7.

Falmouth 4, Bridgewater-Raynham 1: Caroline Muskal (6-1, 6-1 at first singles), Genevieve Maranchie (6-2, 6-0 at second singles), Rachel Larson (6-0, 7-5 at third singles), and Alexis Christian/Maia Ledwell (6-2, 5-7, 10-7 at first doubles), all took points in the Clippers (13-2) win.

Mashpee 4, Rockland 1: The Falcons go above .500 at 7-6.

Golf

The Cape and Islands League Championship meet took place at Cranberry Valley Golf Course. Sturgis West's Mya Murphy took first place, shooting a six-over par 78, narrowly beating Cape Cod Academy’s Bella Scoletti (82), and Nauset’s Sophie Sullivan (84).

Track

The Cape and Islands League Championship meets took place for both the boys and girls teams. Nauset claimed the league title on the boys side, with 106 points. Dennis-Yarmouth finished second with 97 points, and Falmouth taking third with 91.

For the girls, Dennis-Yarmouth are the 2023 champs after finishing with 164.5 points. Second was Nauset with 112.5, and Barnstable (95 points) came in third.
