High school baseball report: Austin-area district races approach midpoint

District races are starting take shape as they approach the midpoint and the season's final month. Here's the Austin-area baseball report:

Cedar Ridge 4, Stony Point 0: Matthew Fletcher tossed five scoreless innings with six strikeouts and combined with Hudson Hartgrove and Carson Reeves on a shutout as the Raiders completed a series sweep. Hartgrove’s two-run homer and Peyton Dulin’s two doubles and two RBIs led the Cedar Ridge offense.

Vandegrift 3, McNeil 1: The Vipers stayed in a tie for first place in District 25-6A by completing the series sweep behind Carter Hubbard’s two-run single, Miles Teodecki’s run-scoring hit and Brendan Kopp’s seven strikeouts in 5⅓ innings.

Vista Ridge 10, Westwood 4: Isaac Garcia went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Tyler Yount finished 2-for-3 with two runs driven in, Brody Miller had three hits and Kade Nathman drove in two runs to gain the Rangers a series split. Ethan Sanders fanned eight in six innings on the mound for Vista Ridge.

Dripping Springs 5, Akins 2: Taylor Tracey went 2-for-4 with a walk, double and RBI and Dom Hurley and Gavin Hoel both had run-scoring hits to lead the Tigers to the series sweep. Jaxon Conover, Blake Cox, Tracey and Tristan Ciechanowicz teamed up for Dripping Springs’ effort on the mound.

Johnson 13, Austin High 3: Ethan McLain went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, Gus Koehn had a triple and four RBIs and both John Swinton and Ricky Montijo drove in two runs to lead the Jaguars to the sweep.

Westlake 7, Anderson 2: The Chaps used a six-run fourth inning to gain a series split. Jack Casteel hit a three-run homer and had four RBIs, Theo Gillen ripped a two-run triple and Chance Covert struck out seven in five innings to lead Westlake. Ethan Armbruster tossed two scoreless innings in relief and had a hit, and Lane Johnson, Luke Nogalski and Sage Sanders all added hits in the loss.

Weiss 4, Bryan 1: The Wolves completed the series sweep thanks to a four-run sixth inning. Jordan Benjamin and Aiden Seidenberger had two-run hits in the frame, while Rhema Benjamin threw six scoreless innings with six strikeouts on the mound.

Liberty Hill 3, Leander 2 (8): Andrew Basey’s walk-off double gave the Panthers a key District 25-5A extra-innings win. Jordan Andrews doubled to begin the inning and scored the winning run. Gavin Voth scattered five hits over seven innings and had four strikeouts to pace Liberty Hill on the mound.

Cedar Park 11, Lockhart 0: Kade Davis hit two home runs and had six RBIs as the Timberwolves completed the series sweep.

Hays 13, Glenn 1: The Hawks swept the series in dominant fashion as Cooper Jen went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Adriano Fernandez finished 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs and Holden Catron had a double and three RBIs. Mark Ramirez threw a complete game with seven strikeouts to earn the win.

Rouse 10, Lehman 0: Oscar Salazar went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBIs and threw a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to lead the Raiders. Landon Miller finished 2-for-4 with a double and drove in four runs, Andrew Sanchez had an RBI double and Rayner Heinrich and Xander Forsell both doubled as Rouse completed the series sweep.

Georgetown 3, Elgin 1: Reece Herrera’s two-run single and Ryley Leininger’s nine strikeouts in six innings on the mound paced the Eagles. Talan Ball also had a double for Georgetown, which swept the series and is undefeated in District 23-5A play.

Hendrickson 6, Pflugerville 4 (8): Mason Cortinas threw three shutout innings in relief, Jake McGuire drove in a run and Connor Padilla had two hits for the Hawks, who remained undefeated in District 23-5A play.

Bastrop 5, East View 2: The Bears earned a key win for their playoff hopes thanks to Val Regalado striking out eight in five innings on the mound and John Dawson, Bob Gorman and Brayden Davenport producing run-scoring hits.

LASA 10, LBJ 0: Wyatt Saydah threw a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and Connor Willie went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for the Raptors, who completed a series sweep. Zac Kahn finished 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles and two RBIs and Calvin Fedyszyn drove in two runs in other notable LASA performances.

McCallum 11, Northeast 0: Sam Stevens had two doubles and an RBI and struck out six in three innings on the mound to lead the Knights. CJ Willie had a two-run double, and Nico Sanchez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to help McCallum stay perfect in District 24-5A action.

Crockett 5, Navarro 1: Jason Sanchez and Jacob Reed had RBI hits and Hunter Dement threw a complete game with eight strikeouts as the Cougars bolstered their District 24-5A playoff seeding hopes with the win.
