UPDATE: Gunnar Gundy has re-entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports on Jan. 23.

STILLWATER — After three seasons at Oklahoma State, Gunnar Gundy is headed to OU — Ohio University.

The son of OSU coach Mike Gundy announced his commitment to the Bobcats on Friday afternoon, where he will play for another Oklahoma-grown coach, Tim Albin, who was born and raised in Woodward.

Gunnar Gundy went into the transfer portal in early December, but remained with the team through bowl season. That allowed him to conclude his Cowboy career with a 10-yard touchdown run on the only snap he played in OSU’s 31-23 win over Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl last week.

Gundy appeared in nine games over three seasons, making one start, and was part of the team’s three-quarterback rotation used in the first three games of this season. In those appearances, he threw for 202 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions.

For his career, Gundy threw for 449 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions, completing 40 of 73 passes. He also rushed 35 times for 120 yards.

Gundy was The Oklahoman’s Big All-City Player of the Year as a senior at Stillwater High School in 2019 when he threw for 3,481 yards and 47 touchdowns with just three interceptions and a 74.4% completion rate.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound left-hander has two years of eligibility remaining. Gundy chose Ohio over offers from programs such as Abilene Christian, Indiana State and Elon and joins a Bobcat roster that also includes Oklahoma City product Rickey Hunt Jr., a freshman running back from Millwood.

Ironically, OSU gained a commitment from Ohio transfer tight end Tyler Foster a day earlier.
