Girls Wrestling continues to grow locally in year two
Nov. 9—In it's second year as a state sanctioned sport in Iowa, girls wrestling's numbers at Clinton and Camanche has seen a big increase.
For Clinton, a year ago they had 13 girls on the roster and this year they have doubled that with 26 wrestlers. For Camanche, they had just one wrestler on the team in Izzy Peters a year ago. While Peters is still on the team, five other girls will suit up for the storm as they have their first girls wrestling team.
Clinton had three girls make their way to state a year ago in Callia Logan, Arie Russell and Cambrie McLoyd. All three wrestlers return for the River Queens this season with Logan and Russell both being seniors and McLoyd being a sophomore.
Peters had a nice year for Camanche a year ago, just missing out on state but she will look to change that in her senior season.
Clinton will start their season on Monday night when they host #5 ranked Bettendorf in one of the River Queens three home meets.
Camanche will start their season Tuesday in Iowa City and will have their lone home meet on Monday, Dec. 4.
