Girls basketball: There are eight candidates for the Varsity 845 player of the week

Online voting for the Varsity 845 girls basketball player of the week for January 22-28 is now open. Go to RecordOnline.com/sports and vote as often as you like until 10 p.m. on Saturday, February 3. (no computer bot voting, please).

Nominations are pulled from reports to Varsity 845 and other sources. Players from Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties are eligible. One player per school is permitted during each week. The first four winners were Zoe Mesuch of Wallkill, Amiah Neails of Monticello, Sam Calahan of Highland and Jordan Dymond of Tri-Valley.

The winner will be announced via X / Twitter @Varsity845. Previous winners can become eligible again once the postseason has begun.

She scored 23 points to lead the Wizards to a 55-33 win over Monticello on Jan. 25.

She scored 20 points as the Goldbacks bowed to Pine Bush 70-33 on Jan. 22.

Cassie Jennings, Minisink Valley

She scored 19 points in the Warriors’ 34-26 win over Washingtonville on Jan. 22.

Ashley MacCalla, Middletown

She scored 23 points for the Bears in a 51-41 win over Beacon on Jan. 24. She had 18 points in a 61-51 loss to Kingston on Jan. 22.

Kalle Masseo, New Paltz

She posted 18 points and six steals as the Huguenots beat Livingston Manor 48-30 on Jan. 24.

Ava Ottavino-Scaturo, Kingston

She scored 29 points as the Tigers beat Middletown 61-51 on Jan. 22.
