Giants have two classic Super Bowl rematches in 2023

The 2023 NFL schedule is packed with ‘historical’ Super Bowl rematches featuring a Week 11 one between last season’s participants — the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The New York Giants will play two such games this season — one against the Buffalo Bills and one versus the New England Patriots.

The Giants will travel to Buffalo to face the Bills in Week 6 on Sunday night, October 15 in a rematch of Super Bowl XXV, which was the memorable ‘Wide Right’ game in January of 1991 at the outset of the first Gulf War.

The Giants had a 20-19 lead with eight seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and were on the verge of being defeated when Bills kicker Scott Norwood pushed his 47-yard field goal attempt wide right to give the Giants the victory.

This year’s game will also be the first time Giants head coach Brian Daboll will face his former team, where was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2018-21.

The Giants will host the Patriots on Sunday afternoon, November 26, a franchise they bested in two Super Bowls (XLII, XLVI). The first victory was known for wide receiver David Tyree’s ‘helmet catch’ and the thwarting of New England’s quest for a perfect season.

The second victory came four years later with the pivotal play being a perfect sideline pass from quarterback Eli Manning to wide receiver Mario Manningham to set up the winning score.

Our friends at Touchdown Wire list Giants-Patriots as one of the best regular season Super Bowl rematches of the season.

The New York Giants and New England Patriots both had memorable, dramatic Super Bowls in XLII and XLVI. However, the Giants came out on top both times.

This year’s meeting will only be the 12th between the two franchises in the regular season since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger. The Patriots have a 7-4 overall record against Big Blue in those games and are 0-2 in the postseason.

Under current head coach Bill Belichick, the Pats are 4-1 in the regular season versus the Giants.
