Gators News: Men’s, women’s golf wraps up while tennis teams continue on

Welcome to a humpday edition of Gators News and today’s update is dominated by the tennis and golf teams, both of whom have been in action over the first half of the week. While the golf teams wrapped up their play yesterday, the tennis teams continue on at a prestigious event. Here is a look at the latest from those programs.

Men's golf

The No. 22 men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Colonial Collegiate on Tuesday finishing 12th in the first of three straight weeks of tournaments. Junior Yuxin Lin led the Gators with his second consecutive top-25 finish tied at 13th with a 2-over par scorecard. Next up for Florida is the SEC Match Play Championship next week, with the first round teeing off on Sunday, Oct. 10 at Shoal Creek Golf Course.

Women's golf

The No. 9 women also concluded competition at the Windy City Classic yesterday, with newcomer junior Jackie Lucena placing second overall to help the Gators earn their third-straight third-place finish. The squad gets a couple of weeks off before returning to action at The Ally at Old Waverly from Oct. 25 to 27.

Men's tennis

The men’s tennis team continues to play the ITA All-American Championships with graduate student Mattias Siimar and freshman Abedallah Shelbayh rolling along in doubles competition on Tuesday, taking three qualifying matches to advance through to the main draw on Wednesday, joining senior Andy Andrade and sophomore Ben Shelton on the big stage.

Women's tennis

The women’s tennis team’s senior Marley Zein is still alive at the ITA Women’s All-American Championship and is set to face Texas Longhorn Kylie Collins on Wednesday at 8 a.m. EDT to decide who advances to the qualifying round.
