Franz Wagner selected to NBA-All Rookie first team

Former Michigan basketball star Franz Wagner had an impressive first year with the Orlando Magic.

Wagner left Michigan after his sophomore season and declared for the NBA where the Magic drafted Wanger with the No. 8 pick in the 2021 NBA draft.

Wagner started all 79 games he played during his rookie season while putting up 15.2 points-per-game — which was fourth-best among rookies –, 4.5 rebounds-per-game, and 2.9 assists-per-game. The former Wolverine shot 35% from 3, and 46% from the field this past season. He was also named the Kia NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for December

The All-Rookie teams were announced on Wednesday, and Wagner made the first-team NBA-All Rookie team while receiving 84 first place votes. Wagner was joined by Scottie Barnes(Toronto), Cade Cunningham(Detroit), Evan Mobley(Clevland), and Jalen Green(Houston).

The Magic got a nice surprise on Tuesday when they won the NBA draft lottery. Orlando will now be able to select who it wants to go along with Wagner, Jalen Suggs, and Wednell Carter Jr. for the foreseeable future.
